Cinnamon
Its my Dads 70th Birthday party tonight at his golf club.....I am already dreading it,but now have clothes issues to contend with too I have a lovely long, floaty sheer paisley top in navy & shades of blue to wear & was going to wear it with my black trousers & wedge heeled suede boots. I tried it all on LAST NIGHT & it looked & fitted fine. Today however, due to monthly bloat, the trousers can barely do up & are excruciatingly tight around the tum My only other option is jeans....but Dad has said that jeans can't be worn at the golf club. There was a fair deal of chat about it on Christmas day as hubby wanted to wear his usual faded jeans & Hawaiian shirt ensemble..... There isn't a dress code stipulated on the invite, but Dad insists that everyone knows you can't wear jeans to a golf club (God knows why?) However, MY jeans are brand spanking new, never worn, deepest indigo blue & as smart as anything else I own - reckon I could get away with it? I don't think he will even notice....especially as the prodigal son is going to be there after a month away in Thailand. I don't want to phone Dad & ask because he will say no. I also don't want to ask the Husband as he will say that if I am going to wear jeans, then he is too
lindafw
phone the Golf club and ask....
Cinnamon
Can't. My ex SIL man's the phones & will tell Dad,who is there already, overseeing things. There is nothing on the website though. I have found a pair of black linen wide leg trousers which will do,but they don't have the structure of the jeans & are a darn sight less smart looking too,as well as being nippy this time of year! Geoid
The jeans sound fine to me, I have worn smart black jeans to formal occasions and no one said anything.
scubababe
Does the golf club have a website? Maybe that will have a dress code on. Just a thought.
Egluntyne
I guess you risk being turned away if they are very strict about dress code, which would put the dampers on your Dad's celebration a bit. I'd wear the black trousers. If they are chilly, put some tights on underneath.
Plum
If it was me I'd wear the original black trousers but not do them up. It won't show under your long floaty paisley top. Just pin it across the waist so they don't fall down
Cinnamon
Tights! Brilliant idea. TBH,the thougt of being turned away appeals somewhat. I am not a social creature & am dreading this party.......
Lesley
I was just going to say that being turned away would be a bonus for me If you feel more confident in the new jeans I'd go in those but have the trousers in the car just in case. Redwing
I know golf clubs have strict rules regarding clothing for rounds of golf and lunch etc.. but I'd be amazed that anyone hiring a room for a social event would be bound by those rules, maybe your dad is just thinking about the rules for daily attendance at the club? Cinnamon
Being both a Diva & a Pedant,my dad is liable to make up his own rules anyhow I do see the point - jeans can look scruffy & casual (& I know dad hates that), but mine are brand new & really smart. Ah well - will have to see what the next hour brings now.
