Cate in NZ
Sitting here at the computer (trying to catch up with all these red arrows ) I spotted son's i-pod left on the desk. Curiosity drove me to listen to it, after all the darned thing's always in his ears, and is apparently the reason he rarely hears me when I speak to him. First track up........... "Breakfast in America" by Supertramp I loved that song when I was young, but I'm sure that was when I was at University, a very long time ago. Has it been released, or has he just got very retro tastes Since had a spot of Genesis, and a few newer tracks that I don't recognise but that I actually quite like. Best not tell him, I'm not sure that it's cool to share the same musical tastes as your Mum. Or will he be impressed that I've got the Supertramp track on vinyl
Jools
Oh Supertramp - that takes me back to our early holidays camping in the south of France . It was another lifetime! Memories eh!
Couperman
He's probably never heard of vinyl!! Great music is timeless, and he has great taste like you. Don't tell him that though. I love Pink Flloyd even though the best music they did is older than me! Does he listen to Radio 2 on the quiet as well? You know you are getting old when your fav teenage songs make it on there on a reguler basis. Kev.
Egluntyne
You know you are getting old when your fav teenage songs make it on there on a reguler basis. Kev. You know you are getting old when you see a top in the Damart window and you find yourself thinking "Oooh.....that's quite nice" I remember my daughter being "gobsmacked" when she realised that I knew all the words to Eternal Flame....She was a bit of an Atomic Kitten fan at the time.......but I remembered it first time round! Lesley
Kate - you should just put your vinyl copy on and wait to see his reaction Egluntine - your post has provoked another thread..............
Cinnamon
This has encouraged me to have a look at Devons ipod. As well as reams of My Chemical Romance & The Kaiser Cheifs we have the following gems - "Daydream Believer" - The Monkees "Walk This Way" - Aerosmith "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen (probably thanks to Waynes World) The entire Paolo Nutini CD "Wild World" - Cat Stevens "Lovely Day" - Bill Withers "Misirlou" - Di*k Dale & his Del Tones (Pulp Fiction Soundtrack) A handful of Beach Boys tracks Not all of it old, granted, but I never knew she was into all this stuff It make me feel a bit better about pinching her My Chemical Romance CD & putting it onto my iPod now
Laura & CTB
I got an ipod for my birthday so was sorting through my CD collection to do some transfers - found my Aerosmith, Genesis and Pink Floyd all in my son's room Unknown to me he downloaded Mica - Love Today onto my ipod - after wondering "what on earth" I'm now going around humming it much to his amusement

A-ha, that explains a lot Annie, thanks, I had wondered Now to dig out the old LP and turntable from the loft and introduce him to the rest of the tracks on the album
The Dogmother
Sounds like a lot of the stuff that I like My music taste spans decades (like me!) from early Beatles, through Tom Jones, 70s disco, Cat Stevens.... on to Ibiza hard base, Moby, Kaiser Chiefs, snow patrol and Christina Aguilera. I listen to Radio 2 in the mornings because Terry makes me laugh and i can't stand the other stations. I go to the Global Gathering most years (but am too old to camp) Rosie is only 9, but has inherited my music tastes - she listens to all my old vinyl, loves Rocky Horror, Porgy and Bess, Bob Seger and Bob Dylan too. She and I often 'funk around' the living room in preference to doing any housework
Richard
I spent a fantastic time a couple of years ago putting all my old vinyl onto my iPod - £9 worth of software and I cut put all the old Stones, supertramp, Steeleye span, Fairport etc etc onto MP3. Brilliant. the trouble is that now, when I buy new stuff from iTunes I feel I have to burn a CD of it - just in case! I suppose it's the reassurance of having something tangible there! Cinnamon
I am burning myself a new car CD as I type I do this evey 6 months or so, then burn a new one once I have new tracks to add on. The problem is I have 900mb of music & a 700mb disc, so I am having to go through it all & do a bit of tidying up Lots & lots of variation on it - Sinatra, Jamiroquai,Beach Boys, Kaiser Cheifs,White Stripes & Japan to name but a few
Richard
When I was younger I used to make up tapes of my favorites. Its great to be able to do the same on CDs or iPod playlists now! I have one of the iPod Photos, which holds 60GB - and I've got about 30 GB of stuff on it (some is a load of rubbish imo - but I just can't bring myself to chuck anything away, even the Concretes and the Foo Fighters which I have no idea why I got!). Last Xmas I was given a little iPod nano which is brilliant for the train - and the battery lasts for ever before needing recharging. iPods get my vote as the best invention of the last decade! But I'm sure I would be outvoted on this forum if they were up against Crocs! If I could set up one of the forum vote things I would - just for fun! The Dogmother
I've got a natty Samsung MP3 Player - same thing as an ipod, but half the price. I love it; I do lots of walking each day, taking Rosie to school, then on to work, etc, so I get to listen to all my favourite tunes while I'm striding out. Plus, it keeps Rosie quiet on long car journeys
mountainboarddude
i listen to a lot of old stuff, steeleye span, eric clapton, the who, ELO, santana, madness, queen and last but not least bob marley. my friends probably think i'm a bit wierd in my musical tastes. Richard
Doesn't sound wierd to me at all - great music! I've just got a couple of new albums - Keren Ann (absolutely brilliant French pop), Sinead O'Connor's latest and a Mary Chapin Carpenter new one. All good stuff (imo).
