Cinnamon
Last year my lovely Grandmum died,& unexpectedly she left a nice amount of money to myself,my sister & my brother. It was understandably an emotional time, & we all miss her terribly. Anyhow,my sister & her fiancée have had 3 unsuccessful & horribly expensive attempts at IVF,after an infection following an appendicitus (*sp) operation left her with very damaged ovaries& unable to conceive naturally. They had run out of money & all but given up hope when my Grandmums legacy to us arrived in the post, & they spent it on a last ditch attempt at getting the baby they want, using an egg doner from Spain, where women get paid to donate eggs,so the egg quality is much better than here. Today she found out she is pregnant Has anyone else got a story about a bad situation bringing about a good one?
Snowy
Thats wonderful! What a lovely outcome for them Can't think of any good outcomes from bad - but thats only because there have been so many! I'm a big believer in every cloud having a silver lining

Mum
Condolences about your Grandmother, but how very wonderful for your sister Unfortunately, I have quite a few - won't bore anyone with any though. Suffice to say, the "University of Life" has taught me much.

TheGirlsMum
great news. My father-in-law died the day before youngest arrived 4 weeks early. Always said he made room for her.
Olly
What a lovely story. I'm like Snowy - things usually happen for a purpose even if you can't see the purpose at the time, and every bad situation has something good in it.
C&T
Huge congrats to your sister! We have an IVF baby here - and can sympathise with the highs and lows of the whole process... So glad they got a successful outcome! Agree about clouds and silver linings. My OH losing his job 2 weeks before LO was born was a memorable low spot - but he was at home for the first few months of LO's life, and then got a great job just as the redundancy was running low. All in all we have a lot to thank that original company for!
Looney
Fantastic news about your sister Cinnamon I've been trying to focus on positives during a really tough past year or so. Bad thing was my office shutting when I was on maternity leave and my job disappearing Good thing was getting an extra 4 months full wage after officially returning from maternity leave as my employer didn't know what to do with me and couldn't legally make me redundant for a few months An extra 4 months to spend with my baby Not sure this really fits good coming from bad but I can't resist telling it A friend's mum is having a really tough time at the mo for various reasons and is doing a very hard job as a live in carer. She can't afford to retire but for health reasons can't do the job she originally trained for. A few years ago she bought my OH a book on quitting smoking as she was concerned for his health. He passed the book on to a friend called K who also quit. Fast forward a couple of years and K's daughter needed a kidney transplant urgently and K was able to donate and save her daughter's life. One requirement of being a donor was she needed to be x number of years free of smoking.....which she just was thanks to reading the book when she did! I have just managed to let my friend's mum know that she has been instrumental in saving a young lady's life. Hopefully it will give her a bit of a boost

Alis girls
I have known a few couples who conceive naturally after an IVF baby - my friend did several times. Well done to them and hope all goes well. Sorry to hear about Grandmother. I miss mine dreadfully even after 12 yrs.
pips_pekins
That's wonderful news about your sister Sarah. Going through fertility treatment is so terribly hard and as you've seen it doesn't always work so it is lovely to hear that you will soon be an aunty. Space Chick
I have a similar story. When my Grandfather was still alive, he decided to give all the grandchildren a few thousand pounds each, so he could enjoy watching us spend it. Mine paid for some new kitchen appliances and my first walk in run However, my cousin is a different story.... His wife had been suffering with horrendous headaches... She was on an NHS waiting list for an MRI scan.... She'd been waiting and waiting... So my cousin decided to pay for the scan out of the money.... The scan showed a brain tumour.... She had it removed and is now fine. However, if she had waited it probably would have been too late for her. So my Grandads money saved her life. He passed away 18 months ago, and I miss him terribly, he was a wonderful man. So pleased for your sister Cinnamon, hope all goes well with the pregnancy

scubababe
Sorry gotta SHOUT about my god-daughter. She had an ovary removed as a baby due to being born with a cyst and with scarring and polyps on the other one she has always been told that she would never be a mum. She had her 12 week scan today and all is well with bump!! I'm going to be a Great Auntie....sooooooo excited
