snowberry
The only other consideration is that buyers often want a bath if they have young children. Babies prefer baths to showers, well, mine did anyway. Now that they're teenagers, it's showers!.
WitchHazel
We have a large double ended spa bath, and a separate walk in shower (converted bedroom a separate WC). We switched to a water meter 3 years ago, and since then I rarely have a bath as I know just how water-wasteful it is. SOmetimes, though, only a bath will do. It's not about getting clean, it's about relaxing, making me feel better when I'm unwell, etc. n order to fit a bath and a walk in shower in your room, perhaps you could look at replacing your bath? You could go for something smaller, which may give you the room to move other pieces around?
The Dogmother
Reading patsylabrador's post reminds me of when Rosie was little and before I had a shower; she would strip off and get in my bath with me, then started to get in my shower when I had one fitted. One word of warning about those big 'slipper baths'; my neighbours had one and it's so big that it takes ages to fill to any useful level and goes cold quickly. When I had my newer bath fitted (enamelled steel with tiled panels, I had insulated (just the loft variety) tucked in between the bath and panels so that it doesn't lose heat as quickly as it might. Lesley
I never have a bath!! I always preferred a shower to a bath before I injured my knee anyway and then with the injury I couldn't get in or out of a bath anyway. We took the corner bath out of our en suite which is downstairs and enjoy the extra space - it had a separate shower as well. We do have a bath upstairs but I only use that for washing sheep fleece in - my grandchildren do still use the bath when they stay but they're more likely to shower these days. If you're not planning to sell in the near future than I would go with the shower but be prepared to replace a bath if you needed to sell in the future. stehaggan
In our house we have a hidden bath tub see pic below (3 wooden floor panels which lift up). Shower is overhead so all the of the water runs into the bath without having to climb into the bath and also it utilises the space better. It is a bit of a hassle actually as it is a pain to clean and the bath often looks very grubby so we have to explain to people that we really aren't that dirty and leave the bath in a huge disgusting mess lol It is buried into the floor (good way to make a small bathroom look bigger). We have lived there 3 years and used it just once. We find the shower more convenient and less wasteful of water. My parents who live in a older house are currently doing up their bathroom and have opted out of having a bath and are having a wet room style bathroom instead with just a really good shower system. kinsk
I have always been a shower girl, mainly die to time. In the time it takes to fill the bath I could have had a shower and washed my hair. I always loved the idea of a long relaxing bath but as soon as I was in it I wanted to get out. Recently though since we have a nice bathroom I love a bath. Can never be bothered washing my hair in one though so either have to do it first and then have a bath so only tend to bother with a bath when I am not washing my hair. I have no issues with a shower over a bath.
The Dogmother
A couple of years back we had our company's 20th anniversary do when we were all put up (with partners) in a gorgeous hotel; the bathroom was very glamorous So I had a rare bath while the other availed themselves of the swimming pool The bath taps are the same as I have at home. Lydia
We got rid of our bath in late 2010 and have never missed it. I used our old one probably 3-4 times in the 12 years it was there and hubby never used it. The old shower was in the bath and was a rubbish, weak electric one so the bath still had to be cleaned in its entirety to get off the limescale off. I objected to cleaning something we never used. We ummed and arred about replacing it but only for reasons of a future house sale. Then we reasoned that we had no plans to move in the next 10-15 years anyway so may as well have our only bathroom the way we wanted. We might have replaced the bath if we had an ensuite with a shower in it but we don't. We also might have put one in if you had plans to move. We opted to fit a really good, larger shower cubicle and use the space where the bath was for extra storage. We also got rid of the airing cupboard (also never used except for storage) and put the water tank in the loft. Best thing we ever did. Bear in mind that if you do fit a bath you still have to clean it even if you don't use it - OK it won't get that dirty but if you clean the rest of the room it'll make the bath look dirty especially if you live in a hard water area. Leeloo
I've never enjoyed a bath - being 5'10" makes it difficult to find one where I can fit comfortably, there's always too much sticking out! I have the same problem, but I love baths so I make do with our little tubs even though I can't relax properly in them! I only shower when I'm in a hurry. My husband recently proposed getting rid of our walk-in closet and making a huge bath with a big garden tub for me. I just looked at him in horror. That's way too much work and who would buy a house with no closet in the master bedroom when we went to sell? It would be much better to get a small hot tub for the backyard if we were going to splurge!
Lavenders_Blue
No, I wouldn't miss having a bath. I very rarely have a bath as I prefer to shower. On the odd occasion when I do decide to run a bath I get hot, wrinkly and bored after about 10 minutes and have to get out. I don't understand people who can lounge around in a bath for hours with candles, wine and a book. Not my idea of fun at all!
soapdragon
I have to admit to not having a bath for a little over 7 years ! We have a main bathroom and also en suite with shower and I always shower (and do hair at the same time!) I am always worried that having a bath would wake the boys up and, anyway, our bathroom is in dire need of updating so not the nicest ! I don't miss a bath at all.......thinking about it I now don't really don't like the idea of wallowing tho I am looking forward to a bath when we go on hols having seen the rather nice bathroom in the holiday cottage brochure! I think thats just novelty value tho !! However, Clare makes bathing look VERY glamourous and I'm just not sure I could compete! Would also need LOTS more bubbles to preserve whats left of the modesty !
Seagazer
I couldn't be without my bath, I love relaxing in it and sometimes when I'm really, really cold its just so lovely to soak and read a magazine. However we do have a separate shower room that everybody uses and is so much better for washing hair in. Actually I think its just me and my DD that use the bath. However, you've said that you've not used the bath in a long time and you're not planning on moving so it probably makes sense to do without it if space is tight. I, personally though, wouldn''t buy a house without a bath.
craftyhunnypie
I would never be without my bath - I just love it! A good soak is so relaxing & you can get your scrubbie everywhere! I mean - how do you truly get your feet clean in a shower? Very iffy manouvres to scrub ones feet in a shower. Yes I like showers, but give me a bath full of bubbles any day! We have a small bathroom which was not big enough for a standard length bath. However, we got one slightly shorter, wider and deeper, and its the best bath we have ever had. OH can have a lovely bath in it. We just went for a smaller toilet and sink so we could get everything in.
