I need help staying away from Facebook

Recommended Posts

To fellow omleteers,

I have finally decided that I need to reduce the amount of time I spend on Facebook, as it has become an addiction and I am not able to get as many things done as I would like to.

I have tried several "non-procrastination" apps for chrome but they can all be easily overridden.

Now I have tried making a long password so it takes longer for me to log in, but, if I want to go on facebook, I'm going to go on facebook, no matter how long my password is :wall:

Anybody got Ideas as to how I can stay away from, or failing that, reduce how long I spend on facebook.

Thanks

Get busy doing other things. I find I can not go on it for a whole day, or even two, if I am gardening (or other). Don't fall into the 'Oh, I'll just see what's happening on FB' & 'just a quick look' trap. An hour or so pass in the blink of an eye.

Like I can talk :lol::oops:

Firstly delete the app on your phone, delete the shortcut on your computer.

Then make your last status something along the lines of "hey everyone, I'm not ignoring you but having a Facebook holiday". If you log on to have a quick peek after this then you will look weak & have failed! It worked for me & now I can take it or leave it :D

Get an outdoor hobby for when the weather is nice...gardening, walking, clean your eglus, go on your bke..Anyhing! Then when weather is bad do anything! I don't really get addiction to Facebook or Twitter. A forum is different as you actually learn things! Ahh now that's an idea... study something online! Do a course! That will use your time more effectively. :D

Good luck.

I disabled my FB account earlier this year. At first, I felt a bit lost without it. I hadn't realised how addicted I was. After a week or two, I had found other things to do in its place and didn't miss it. I didn't go back to it for two months, and when I did, the habit had been broken and now I only look at it once or twice a day instead of once an hour as before.

A period of cold turkey worked for me!

I was having very similar problems ...i had to log on first thing on a morning , then at lunch time , then all evening, i played games more than chatted.....i had to stop it ! so i deleated All the games, then deleated all friends that did not reply to my warning that i was trimming down my friend list then you were out. I put this warning on my profile three times and then i was ruthless and de friended people....none requested a new friendship so weren't really friends just game additions.

Then i stopped logging on every day and only when i felt the need to catch up with family and the few remaining friends . I am glad to say my FB time is more enjoyable and i have lots of time for other more important things.

But be warned it was hard at first.

I have never got the facebook addiction thing really apart from when I played Pop Master a few times, then again i only have 7 friends

I have however spent many hours on this forum over the last 5 years, I don't spend quite as much time here now, it depends on who's around and the current topics.

I wonder what it is  I just love this forum as it is so informative and posts are often written with great humour so I get plenty of laughs. It gives me a real feeling of warmth and of belonging. Yet facebook (and I too only have a handful of friends on it) seems a bit, well, vapid . . . just 'I did this and I did that' and I've noticed that (at least amongst those I know on facebook) a real conversation with differing opinons hardly ever strikes up. Guess I'm not so interested in what people do, more in what they think. Also on Facebook I really miss the little emoticons because they give much more meaning to what people say.

It wasn't that bad until about a year ago. July 2011, I had about 80 friends. November 2011, just 4 months later, I had about 300. Today, I think I have about 350. I would honestly say that I have barely even met three-quarters of them

I used to spend a good bit of time on the forum about a year ago. Then I got into facebook and only used the forum when I needed to.

Last Saturday, something amazing happened, I was fiddling around with security settings on facebook and accidentally locked myself out of my own account

I can get back into it, only it requires a load of questions and passwords which take about twenty minutes to complete.

I decided that it seemed like the perfect opportunity for some cold cold turkey. I decided I would stay off it for a week, log back on Saturday to check up on everything, and then I am going on holidays for a week so I won't be able to find time to go on Facebook

From there-on-in I have decided to check it weekly
