Lucky Escape - caught on camera

Recommended Posts

We had our first fox attack today. Luckily all the ladies seem to be none the worse for the experience but I will be keeping a close eye on Morag who was being carried away before the fox dropped her, I think in panic when the dogs ran out.

The attack happens about half way through and you can see Morag get dragged away and then either escapes or is dropped by the fox. Its CCTV so no audio but there was quite a commotion. You can just see the fox scale an 8 foot brushwood fence to escape the dogs at the end.

The ladies are going to have to spend a bit more time in the run for a while.

I'd beef up the security after this attack. The fox will be back.

Yes, already done. But time outside the run is going to be reduced a little bit to be on the safe side. I have seen foxes on the camera occasionally in the past but only at night.

Amazed at how unruffled they all seem to be. Even immediately after it happened they calmed down very quickly.

Extra treats for dogs and hens this evening :D

Do check to make sure Morag is OK.

I lost two to a fox and thought Persephone had gone as well. She emerged about 20 mins after the attack and when I picked her up and checked her over she had some nasty puncture marks under her wing. I took her to the vet and got antibiotics just to be on the safe side (and any chook that escapes a fox's jaws deserves medical care in my opinion).

She had also been recovering from sour crop and is now back to her top chook status so all is well. Sending hugs to Morag :anxious:

Well done for capturing this footage, it is such a great idea to keep an eye on what goes on outdoors!

That all happened so fast which is very scary.

I bet your dogs and chickens enjoyed their treats, they all deserved them :)
