My new ex-batts have arrived-Pictures added

Recommended Posts

and have we had fun today or what!!:lol:

My original 3 are in the 'classic' in the WIR and not too happy!! They are not amused watching the 'new girls' strutting around!!:lol:

I gave then all some spinach...my girls were drooling at the mouth when they heard the familiar packet rustle, the new girls were too busy exploring & scratching!! My 3 demolished the spinach..new girlies took ages to eat it...much to the disgust of the originals chooks who had eaten theirs and were eager to eat theirs!!:lol:

When it came to bed time the girls had settled down around the floor of the WIR  I gently picked them up and put them one by one into the cube....and then 3 came out and settled into corners of the WIR :wall:

Hey ho..it's only day 1! did think at one stage that one of them was going to just sleep in the sand tray :lol:

2 are very feisty and are 'squaring' off to each other and 1 squares off to Ruby in the classic!! :shameonu::lol:

Can't wait to see how they are tomorrow

Awww bless, they are such lucky hens to have a lovely new home. With the last lot of ex batts we collected, we put the dog carrier into the run and just let them come out in their own time - two came out fairly quickly but two were a bit more hesitatant, however they ended up having a dust up inside the dog carrier! We could see the box jumping about from inside the house! Thankfully it was all over very quickly and then they decided it was more sensible to come out and explore their new home.

Where are the photos of your new girls? We need to see them! Have they got names?

All settling in nicely. No names yet.

Glad to say that today their plumes are looking a lot 'pinkier'. We've also had 4 eggs from the new girls and my other 3 each laid so they're not that upset  and they have had double corn rations

Well i had 5 eggs yesterday and 4 today so things are good. They have pulled the newspaper out of the nest box and the bedding has fallen through the hole so I have put a mesh over the bottom now on top of the newspaper so hopefully that will foil them!!

1 of them is still facing up to my girls in the classic but hopefully that will calm down. They have been much better today in eating their spinach :D

Most of the dust bath is over the floor as is their crumb :roll::lol: We'll get there :lol:

Not got any names for them yet. Thought we would see how they settle down/survive first :) They seem to be thriving. have now started to add pellets into their crumb. the aggression seems to be calming down but not going to introduce my birds for at least another week.

We got our girls same time as you guys and I'm looking for my chicken confidence. Girls are doing great. But they can already jump onto highest perch in wir and I am now really worried about letting them fr incase I loose one over fence. Any ideas would be great. They are fantastic girls and sooooo friendly :D

Honestly, it's very simple. I agree with Chrissie, let us know whereabouts you are and someone may be able to come round and help you out. Failing that, there are lots of pictures/videos on the internet (I think The Dogmother has a good photo if I remember rightly) that show you how to do it. When I had to clip one of my girls' wings, I used a photo to show me which feathers to cut, I think I must have done it more or less right as the hen soon stopped her little jumping games after that

well the girls have been living together, abeit segregated for 3 weeks and have been free ranging together for about a week.

I let them out this afternoon and when it started to get dark thought I'd just make sure they were all in. My 3 original girls were in, two in the classic and 1 in the cube! Just got my ex-batts in, closed the doors and have left them to it. My ex-batts normally sleep in the cube so we will see. Didn't hear any scuffles so I'm assuming they are now relatively happy with each other and just need to sort out the hierarchy now.

I must leave them to it to sort it out :shameonu: the more I interfere now will delay the process :talk2hand: I will put the pecking blocks in I got from Lewis in the morning & some nice grapes :D
