Cinnamon
The Husband has just phoned me to say that he was in a M&S & they had a display of mince pies & holly up by the checkouts I love a mince pie me,but even I think that this is a little early! We have had more wintry things in at work - cinnamon scented candles & the like, but we haven't even got a hallowe'en display yet,let alone mince pies
soapdragon
Noooooooooooooooooooooo...too much too soon
Bramble
I noticed my local Tesco had started to get Christmas chocolates in when I was there last week, but I think what really took the biscuit was the garden centre, where they had real live poinsettias in stock - who on earth wants one of those in September?? Griffin
We enjoyed looking around the Christmas section of Harrods on Saturday
craftyhunnypie
It will soon be upon us though. All this is a gentle reminder to get my bum into gear & start shopping for a few prezzies, as I see them. Saves rushing round like a looney & not having the money in December! Good plan, I think. Yes the shops do get on my nerves when they put out mince pies & play carols at the end of September! Mmmm mince pies. Emma.x
Cinnamon
I have already made a small dent in the presents & have a good amount of bits put by for stocking fillers too. I love & adore Christmas,& it can't begin soon enough for me, but I really didn't expect mince pies just yet! .............................Wouldn't have aid no if he brought some home with him though
soapdragon
I stocked up on wrapping paper and cards in the Jan sales and have picked up a few other bits so far. We have several freinds and family with birthdays very close to Christmas so that puts the pressure on a bit more. We were at a crafty/funfair thingy over the summer and found a fab stall selling hand poured soya candles with aromatherapy oils which was very reasonably priced. Her hubs is a tree surgeon and makes loads of tea light holders, mirrors, small shelves etc with the wood he salvages - again really reasonable. They are only about 20 miles away so I have decided to save up and go over for a visit wIth my Xmas list and get as much as poss in one hit! Cinnamon, they are at Woodcote, if you are interested - know you are within reach! Also off to the Newbury Show next weekend so no doubt there will be some things there - difficult to keep to a budget tho, when picking up bits and bobs here and there
Olly
Well I've started making things for Christmas, but that's because I want to make eight differently-decorated Christmas stockings for a group of friends and I need a head start! I won't be buying mince pies (or making them, even) for a good while. It's always good to spread the cost by buying a few things ahead, but I'd rather not see stuff in the shops at least till Halloween's over! The Dogmother
I love Christmas, but that's far too early.
Willow
I'd rather not see anything to do with Christmas until after Halloween. I love Christmas but not when it's spread over months However presumably some people must buy the stuff this early or shops wouldn't be putting it out. soapdragon
It prolonges the agony for parents, having all this stuff out so early! Poorchildren are already discussing their Christmas lists and what they would like to get for Granny etc! Its the retail equivalent of 'are we nearly there yet'? Luvachicken
My son works in a garden centre and they have been selling potted Christmas trees since last week ............. And my son served 2 customers who bought them on his till.
merlina
Xmas trees?! /boggle I know that they sell stuff early that people might want to send abroad as gifts (that kinda makes sense) But Xmas trees??!!
Ms Marple
Hotel that I was in today (for a post funeral reception!) had a large Christmas tree in its reception area advertising their Christmas festivities!!
The Dogmother
Come to think of it, a pub near us has had a sign up about booking Christmas dinners for at least a month
Cinnamon
Yeah, a few events places around here have had them up for a couple of weeks now,but I can see why,as corporate stuff has to be booked so for in advance. No need to inflict it upon the general public until October,I say!
LolaLayla
A local hotel has its Christmas tree up and the co op has mince pies. I have my cards and paper as I get them in the January sales like sOapdragOn
lillybettybabs
I going to give the hand made hamper thing a go this year, I'm making some jam today, but it may not last as i am rather partial to jam!
The Dogmother
Not plum jam by any chance? I usually do bags for family members; my parents and other older relatives don't expect presents but love homemade goodies. I use these bags to give them in. I fill them with homemade booze (which reminds me to get that on the go), cakes, jam, jellies, cookies and chocolates.
LolaLayla
I like those bags. What a good idea

alih
Yup, Xmas chocs in our newsagents today. I adore Xmas and do stocking fillery stuff during the year as I see it, but it is too soon even for me to be thinking about presents. The kids have started though! Christian
I made my Christmas pud last week and had carols on the Ipod! I LOVE Christmas and would happily have the shops filled with stuff all year. Guessing I am the minority? Bought a few bits so far, but really need to get a wiggle on with regard to present buying. fa la la la la, la la la la.....
