Tudor Monastery Farm BBC Wed 9pm

Ruth has had very long nails in the three other series....not a prob per se but I do flinch a bit when she is preparing food tho they look clean enough if a bit impractical - can you really build a pig proof hedge without damaging your talons??!!!

It was nice to see 'Mr Ruth' doing his artistic bit - what a neat way of making a paintbrush!!! However, I didn't like the whole 'cast' thing with lots of 'extras' around...it seemed a bit odd/false esp given that the other three series had just the presenters with 'experts' brought in as nec. However, this is a purely personal opinion!

In view of my previous post regarding the delectable Mr Ginn, I don't feel it appropriate to comment on his donning of his braies.......:shock::shameonu:

As for chickens.....surely there should have been some as well as the ducks. Nor were eggs mentioned in the albeit brief foodie bits. IMHO, having done a fair bit of research into food history, eggs were a very important part of the diet esp in terms of protein given the scarcity of meat in the average peasanty diet! Maybe this is yet to come; Alex was always the chicken man with his Light Sussex!

Looking forward to next week's episode!

To be honest, I was looking forward to the program and was disappointed. Got bored! Not sure if it is because I have been to Singleton Open Air museum, West Sussex loads and loads of times, so not that much new info for me. As always, the real place is better than a TV program, I thoroughly recommend a visit. :D

DM - you nailed it with 'staged'.....everyone looks far too clean. When we did Living History (or Living Misery as we sometimes referred to it, depending on the weather!) we were filthy and didn't wash kit unless it had really reached unhygenic levels in order to come over as authentic yet everyone last night looked 'biotexed' and sanitised; history was a dirty place and there was no Persil!

If they were wearing their kit on a regular basis then it should have had the opportunity to acquire a life of its own  I feel that I may be being a bit too fussy but, when people hold themselves up as experts then one (me  ) expects that things will be accurate  - still, it was the 1st episode and I am looking forward to more.

PS Have just re read this and don't want to be picky but do feel a sense of verisimilitude is missing. Sorry!

Watched this again last night with OH and picked up on a few bits - has anyone else made rushlights? We have with both lamb fat and dripping and neither smelled when lit even when 'dipped' several times ... not sure where that came from but not true in our case! In fact they provide a good, if yellowish light!

Still want to see the next few episodes!

For those of us that loved Ruth and the Boys' previous adventures (Edwardian Farm, Victorian Farm, etc etc), you might like to know that there is a new series starting next week.

I loved those

What ever happened to the folk who won a farm....

I seem to remember the chap that had to have his pig farm financially rescued was judging it... Jimmy????

Anyway....there was a knockout system and the winners had a farm for a year....always wondered what happened there

I often wonder that, too. I think the programme was called A Farmer's Life for Me, or something like that - went very quiet, didn't it, and hasn't been repeated?

Def getting more into this - the bread making was interesting this week as was Peter trying to reason with an escaped piglet - oooh, he is lovely!!! Were those his two little ones beating the bounds - the boy (Edmund) was ADORABLE!

However, the 'crowd scenes' are a bit odd  Still don't know how Ruth maintains her long nails with all that manual work!
