Such sad news

Recommended Posts

Some of you may remember a post I made almost 18 months ago about a friend who was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

She sadly lost her battle with it and died on Christmas Day.

Initially she had surgery followed by chemo and radiotherapy and then had another 6 months of chemo, in the spring all seemed well and then this summer she knew it had come back again by her symptoms, struggling to get dressed, not able to do things with her left arm. They were going to operate again but in the end the surgeons decided it was too risky and she had another lot of chemo that started in the autumn but sadly she was only well enough to have one cycle.

Although we knew what the outcome would be, the end has come very suddenly and is such a shock. I can't believe she is gone, I had been hoping to visit her between Christmas and New Year.

I feel so sorry for her family, her OH rang me to tell me, what do you say other than so sorry. She has two grown up children, similar ages to mine, we met at school and then have worked together at the same school for nearly 17 years.

I spoke to my friend's OH today to see how he was and to find out if he had been able to make any arrangements yet. He said he hadn't as they don't have a death certificate yet. My friend died on Christmas Day, that is over a week now, I know it has been the New Year but it seems an awfully long time. Does anyone know if this is a normal length of time?

When my parents died I don't remember it taking this long, it was slightly longer for my mum as there had to be a post mortem.

Sadly I think the relevant 'jobsworths' will cite the Christmas break; seems to be the general answer to any time related queries for up to two weeks before and after 25/12  . Really tho, certificates should be available within a certain time frame regardless as families are therefore in limbo and simply cannot 'move on' whilst waiting.

So sorry, so sad.
