The World Cup - Love it or Loathe it?

Recommended Posts

I'm not bothered either way. Eldest son watched a little bit of whatever game yesterday when he was eating tea, but he'd much rather be running around the garden playing footie. We don't tend to have the telly on in the evening anyway. Funnily enough being in Wales I haven't seen one flag of any description

Like most peeps I hate the frenzy that goes with the World Cup, even Lakeland have something football themed grrrrr is nowhere safe?

I hate the aggression football brings out in what are normally decent people, I hate the dissection of the game, I hate the fact that every "fan" knows better than the paid officials and referee.

I can't wait for the whole corrupt circus to be over.

Love it!!!

World cup and Wimbledon in the same year is a real sporting treat for me :D

Me too, sounds like we are in the minority, I love this time of year with all the tennis coverage, the football is the icing on the cake. DS loves both and is my sole tennis busy in the house I will miss his input when he goes off to uni later this year, I will have to watch the US open alone. :(

Loathe with a passion, as does DH. Total football free zone in our house (not just for world cup). Bunch of overpaid, spoilt, prima-donnas with no sense and the communication skills of Neanderthals.

Much as we love this country, getting "patriotic" about football is a waste of time. I just wish people would show the same level of "patriotism" on St Georges Day! We'll be out before you know it and the only people laughing all the way to the bank will be the companies who make all the tat associated with the whole sorry event.

I heard a rumour that one of the players, as they got off the aircraft, told the pilot the leave the engines running, 'cos they weren't going to be long...

Loathe it, as does OH.

Can't begrudge the wall to wall TV coverage however as I fully accept that there are many who love it. I love Wimbledon and watched the Olympics coverage non stop (as I do with all Olympics & Commonwealth Games) I also love watching the various long bike races at this time of year (apart from the time trials which are a bit boring)

Football is probably the only sport I actively dislike. Used to watch it in my youth, when the FA cup final was the highlight of the year. Now they seem to be playing for a different cup every week!

Although I am relieved its all over I am appalled at the dismal performance of the England team. They are paid such huge amounts of money and they are, quite clearly, rubbish!

Perhaps time to do away with their inflated wages and bring in performance related pay :lol:

As for that Suarez bloke, what kind of example is that to set to all the children watching :shameonu:

I was just saying the same thing at school today. As it is children playing football at playtime get a little tap and they lie on the floor dying until the others give in and say they can have a free kick and then they leap up with nothing wrong with them.
