chuckmum6
I am thinking of getting a kindle, but would like some advice. I have an iPad that I currently use to read iBooks with, I am after something lighter, as I often bump myself on the face, as tend to nod off when I read. I also like to read at night, so would like one that has a dimmer, to allow me to read in the dark, but it mustn't cast a glow that would disturb OH. Any ideas which one I should go for? mullethunter
I can't really answer your question, because my kindle is the first generation ones that they don't make any more. But I would say that I prefer my kindle to my iPad for reading in bed, so I can recommend one.
chickencam
My OH has a Kobo Glo because he likes to read at night, he is a chronic insomniac. I hate noise or light when I am trying to sleep and find the light glow of his Kobo is ok, better than his snoring any how As far as I am aware though Kindle do more cheap and free books than Kobo do, but that might a grass is always greener comment. Ain't Nobody Here
I have a Kindle Paperwhite and it is perfect for what you describe - it has a "dimmer switch" which means you can read in the dark without disturbing your bedmate. I can highly recommend it .

Olly
And another vote for the Paperwhite - it's much easier to read than the ipad, and you can adjust the light. I love mine.

I can highly recommend it . Ditto, ES gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago and it is a fabulous device with a really long battery life too. Love it! Egluntyne
I had a Kindle Fire HD but I gave it to one of my children as I never used it for anything but reading, and I bought a Kindle Paperwhite, which I am totally in love with. If you turn the wifi off between downloads, it really does keep its charge for weeks at a time, and you really can read it in bright sunlight. Plus, it is as light as a feather, even in a case. Ain't Nobody Here
I can also recommend this case. When you open and close the lid, it switches the Kindle off and on automatically. It also has a stand so you can prop it up and read handsfree (not that you really need to as it's very light, even with the case!). Keeps your Kindle clean and protected too. CatieB
I am interested to read this thread as I am considering asking for a paperwhite for my birthday. I have an original kindle which I no longer use. I have lost my love of reading and would like to get it back. I used to read in bed but dont any more as the lighting isnt good in my room and I now need glasses to read which I find uncomfortable in bed. My thoughts are that the paperwhite would solve both these issues as I can make the type bigger and the light on the device is said to be good. Am I right? If so just need to deal with my disquiet mind which DH says is the cause of me stopping reading Dont think the kindle will help with that! Cinnamon
I love, love, love my Kindle Paperwhite, & would not be without it. It is light, easy to read, looks great & the night-time reading option is fantastic, as I often wake in the early hours & use it to nod back off. The only downside I have found is that its easier to have a book to hand to whack spiders with!
Olly
CatieB, yes you are right on both counts - the light is good and you can change the text size. I read during the day on the train with my glasses on, but always read in bed without glasses and it's really easy to just up the text size. WitchHazel
Another vote for the Kindle Paperwhite here. Light, esy to hold, easy to read in the dark, easy to change text size, easy to synch with other devices (so I can read using that, or my tablet, or my phone, and they all keep in synch). bellekatz
I love my Kindle Paperwhite as well Much better than my original one, and not nearly as heavy as my iPad.

Eggasperated
Does anyone use the free kindle library - where you have to be on Amazon Prime - from what I can see you can only borrow 1 book a month and I can't see a list of available books. I'm not sure if it would be worth it.
Ain't Nobody Here
I didn't think it was worth it, tbh. If you're happy to take a punt on a book, there are plenty of free ones in the Amazon Kindle store to keep you going inbetween the ones you really want and have to pay for! Cinnamon
...........also you have a few days (or even a week,I am not certain) when you can 'return' the ebook for a full refund, if you really do not get along with it. You do this via your 'manage my Kindle' page.
JellyBean2605
I adore mine, I was against the whole idea when they first came out as you can't beat a good book. But apparently you can, especially if you read great big books. The books are reasonably priced and I can definately recommend Amazon and its kindle, so easy to use even my Mum can do it who's a complete techno-phobe.
