gavclojak
I have six girls now, that's enough for my neighbours I think. They took 20 minutes to come out of the cat baskets, bless but flora is a fiesty little lady, straight over to me and pecked me!! Twice!! They have been flapping their poor little wings and didn't have a clue how to go to bed,? They Just stood there motionless for ages so I just popped them in their temporary accommodation (rabbit hutch) and shut the door and covered with a black out cover, hopefully they get a good night sleep as they have been crated and transported since 3am!!! Thanks guys for all your comments and I will probably bore you all to death with my ramblings:))
Purplemaniacs
What lovely girls. They are lucky to have found a home with you. Enjoy watching them go from strength to strength. Chrissie
dancing cloud
Aaww! look at them all pale and naked . Give them a couple of months of living like proper chickens, and they'll be all fat and fully feathered and demanding little madams (not in the least appreciative of their good fortune!) . Looking forward to the "after" pix. My Lucy was know as "killer-chicken" because she was very pecky at first, but she soon settled down once she realised hands brought nice things and the nice things went away if the hands were attacked. It never failed to amaze me how fast commercial chooks learned to be proper chooks, and how fast they learned to manipulate humans!
jimnpaula
So, have they come out ofthe house yet this morning?
gavclojak
yes paula, I let them out about 7ish this morning and two popped straight out but one stayed in the hutch, I have come to work and just let them settle today, I was going to take this week off but think maybe its better to give them time to get used to there new surroundings alone. I may change flora's name to Attila the hen if she carries on pecking....im sure its not aggressive just inquisitive, she is very cute, she keeps flapping her 'wings' I say wings but they have no feathers at all and look very strange but it must feel nice to her. I have left a pile of compost in the corner for them to rake through and dig and OH spent the weekend putting a corrugated roof on their section so the will remain largely dry(apart from the odd leak) the big girls are not taking any notice at all at the moment, they are spending most of their time under the cube keeping out of the rain or maybe they are sulking!!! mullethunter
I expect the new girls are looking at the rain thinking 'what ever is that?!'

redsunset
Awwww, that's so sweet! I like merry weather as I always go to the underdog me! Bless her little bare body and thank you to you for not making her dog food. Absolutely love when I see ex batts in a new, especially luscious new home. They will become 'normal' chooks in no time......of course they will worry/give you a little grief along the way......but SO worth it
gavclojak
Thanks everyone for your lovely comments, flora is a real character already, very inquisitive, fauna is a little skittish but am really worried about merryweather, she is hunched and sad looking, they all laid eggs in the nest box yesterday so I hope she is just stressed and taking a little longer than the others. I am, unfortunately at work today so am unable to keep an eye on her, if she looks unhappy tonight i am thinking of bringing her in but am not sure that's the best? fingers crossed everyone please for my special girl
dancing cloud
She may be a bit stressed or have a soft egg on the way. My Joy-hen always looked dreadful when a softie was coming and was then absolutely fine afterwards. Is Merryweather eating/drinking? If not, you might want to bring her in and give her a treat like cat food or tuna just to make her feel special. Fingers, claws and paws crossed here

I dont finish work until 7 tonight so I will see how she is when I get home....
