Best or worst present ever?

Recommended Posts

With less than 12 hours to go before Santa delivers our presents, it's time to start the thread - what were your best or worst presents ever?

For me, my best present was my lovely Loki-cat who I adopted two weeks before Christmas eight years ago and who still looks at me like I'm the centre of his universe - aaww! :D

The worst I remember of mine was when I was about nine and my mother bought me Babyliss heated rollers (remember them anyone?) They were red-hot to touch and covered in spikes, and once I'd wound my long hair in them, we couldn't get them out. One burned scalp and a lot of cut hair later, they went back in the box and never came out again!

My godmother once gave my brother (then aged about 12) a bright yellow jumper in size 18, with one sleeve longer than the other :lol:

Go on, do share :D

A few years ago my mother in law gave me one of her old fur coats (fake I hasten to add!) - still in the plastic bag from the dry cleaners

I think she'd been clearing out her wardrobe and for some reason thought it would be perfect for me. Needless to say it went to the back of the wardrobe and stayed there!

As for my best present ever? It would have to be a Russian style hat my mum got me once that is so warm and cosy, I've been wearing it every winter for years and it's still going strong. :D

I really loved the gift OH got me this year. We don't exchange gifts at Christmas but he decided to get me a beautiful nail polish/care advent calendar. I've had so much fun with it. A lovely present every day and of course now I get to play with them. Today was a beautiful bottle of sparkly red which I'm going to put on later tonight ready for tomorrow. It's made me feel loved and spoilt......a present I'll remember for a long time.

I'm in a too benevolent frame of mind to remember worst at the moment.

My worst present - the board game 'A Question of Sport' (circa 1988). I am not interested in sport, and don't like the programme, but I was married at the time to a sports-obsessive. The donor was my husband. You can probably see why he became my ex husband.

I can understand why.

Our first or second Christmas OH bought me an iron. I wasn't impressed as I didn't need a new one. I must have forgiven him, we celebrated thirty years last month. Normally he buys very thoughtful presents. I seem to think I got my own back for his birthday and bought him a toilet brush. :D

Ever best was a trip to Disneyland my mom got me. She made me believe we were going to some Dutch (boring) island at first, but it turned out to be a Disney and Paris trip!

Worst... Most gifts an aunt gets me. She is only 6 years older then me and often gets me stuff that have little to no thought. Mostly giftsets of stuff I don't use.

Pretty high up the best list if my present this year ED, tickets for myself and OH to see Last Tango in February at the Hippodrome in Bristol. It is her first year of having a full time job and she has enjoyed spoiling us all, she also knew that I would never have bought them myself. :D . Slightly awkward though because OH and I had discussed it a few months ago and decided that we would go to see Anton & Erin's show a week later on his birthday in Bristol. We hadn't bought tickets though and probably wouldn't have. I can't wait :D

Another great present was my uncle's Whiskas cat stocking for our remaining cat Ziggy, I was really touched, he is autistic and struggles with gifts normally. :D

Best present was my own stocking to open in bed with the boys and OH! Every year I put loads of effort into organising stockings and appropriate fillers for the chaps and have NEVER had my own but this morning....tah dah!!!!! I must have really whinged about it last year  !

Worst present....coir matting with compost on it rolled up in a box; have read the packaging and am still not sure what to do with it, how to use it or if it even already has seeds of some description in it

My hubbys worst would probably be the mankini he was bought by his sister and her hubby

My best is probably the two balls of Rowan silk and mohair yarn my sister in law bought me. She also got me a pattern for a mobious cowl, which I am working on now. Very odd using such a fine yarn with an 8mm crochet hook!

I think I must win worse present ever...we only buy token joke gifts as I never know what I want and my husband never knows what to buy me....

This year he gave me a box of breakfast cereal saying you know you used to love it and eat it all the time....I have never eaten it as it contains nuts which I do not like on pointing this out he realised it was an ex girlfriend who used to eat them !!!!!!

Luckily we all found it very funny and spent the whole day giving my husband alot of grief....
