Ursula123
Oh wise ones of the omlet forum, help and advice needed. At the beginning of August I was diagnosed with Shingles, it affected my back on the right hand side. At the time I considered myself quite lucky as I did not have any nerve pain, basically it just felt as if i had several insect bites ( at first this is what I thought i had, but the doctor had other ideas). However after the rash disappeared I have been left with an overwhelming tiredness, so much so that by early afternoon I just can not function, even making a cup of tea takes all my effort. I am usually so active and my OH was always telling me to sit down. It possibly didn't help that we moved house at the end of September. I spoke to my doctor who told me that I could feel like this for months and that chronic fatigue is part and parcel of shingles, she told me to eat healthily but that was about it. Since being diagnosed I have been taking Metatone tonic but after 6 bottles its time to try something else. Has anyone had any experience of Feroglobin? Any help and suggestions will be gratefully received.
Olly
No experience of either of those two tonics, but I have had shingles and the effect on your energy overall can be quite dramatic. It was a sign to me that I was doing too much and I ditched a couple of voluntary things that I wasn't enjoying that much. Afraid I can only offer sympathy - moving house is bad enough in its own! I hope things improve for you but meanwhile is there anything you can delegate, postpone or just not do for the next few months?
Alis girls
I too had it mildly and carried on working as it was on my back. Big mistake as I was shattered for about 2months after. I was given antivirals which helped. God forbid I get it again but will rest more. I suspect house move was too much on top of that. Vitamin C and zinc help heal - I always found Echinaea good (soz cant spell) wish you better.
Grandmashazzie
Be good to yourself and rest as much as you can. You are post viral now but it can take your immune system many weeks to regain its equilibrium. If you are not at work try a rest midday. Lots of veggies and smoothies to build up. soapdragon
So sorry to hear you are under the weather. Although I have been lucky enough to avoid shingles I did have a bit of a dip a while ago and took Floradix when I was deemed in need of a boost and it was great......available from health shops in both liquid...which I took - quite yummy too...and tablet form. It was a good 'leg up'. Also, rather strangely, I found bananas a help with two small ripe ones a day.....potassium and zinc? Hope that's helpful and that you are feeling stronger soon! chickencam
My mum had a nasty bout of shingles a couple of months ago. Hers affected her left eye and the left side of her head. She had intense pain and was referred to the eye clinic because they were worried about her sight. She had anti viral tablets for 3 weeks after a nasty reaction to the anti viral eye drops . She is still tired and describes herself as better but not better! I takes time just be kind to yourself. Hope you feel better soon.
Groovychook
I had a mild dose a few years ago and remember feeling so tired. I feel for you, having to deal with a house move at the same time. Hope that you can spare the time to recover at your own pace.
Ursula123
Thank you all for the replies, they made me realise that I do need to give in and rest. Today I decided to give in and rest for an hour earlier, and feel a little better for it, luckily OH and I have our own business so I can take time if needed. He has been working so hard that I felt I had to keep going as it was not fair on him, however I now realise that way it will take much longer for me to get well. Chickencam - I can totally sympathise with your mum, it must have been awful in her eye and face and I know what she means when she describes herself as better but not. I did have anti virals for 7 days. Soap dragon - thanks for the tonic recommendation, I will get some from Holland and Barrett. I eat lots of fruit and veg especially oranges so i definately get vit c, usually a net per day Thank you all
Cinnamon
I had it about a year ago and I quite literally felt like I had been run over by a truck for a long time afterwards. I had 3 weeks off of work and was almost crying with fatigue on my first week back It was on my right hip, back and stomach...even now I often get hip ache there then a day of low low energy. It can stay in the system for years... I should have had another week off in rerospect. I found just resting and keeping warm the best thing. If your body is telling you to rest then go and have a sleep....no shame in it and a great tonic after such a vicious virus
chickencam
My mum is now three months into this and is still struggling with reading for any length of time . Hers was in her eye and scalp. She has days where she feels pretty rough still, she is getting better each week though.
Luvachicken
I've never had it but just wanted to wish you better really soon. Make sure people run around you for a change - although it sounds like your OH is already doing a good job. Get Well Soon Ursula xxx
Ursula123
Thank you all. I started taking feroglobin capsules a couple of weeks ago and they have helped a lot, still not 100% but feeling a lot better, just giving my iron levels a boost. Have a cold at the moment, not had one for years but put it down to my immune system being low. Hope you mum starts to feel better soon chickencam
Grandmashazzie
Have you considered getting the flu jab, once your cold is over?
Ursula123
Will book myself in with the chemist Grandmashazzie. I had it done in Sainsburys pharmacy last year by a chemist who had a sense of humour bypass, he asked me 'if i had any problems with chicken or eggs' to which I replied sometimes I can't get the little blighters to go back in their run and they never lay enough eggs. He said I mean allergies very sternly.

I re read your post and am at stage oh they look like insect bites,in a strange little pattern off to GP and on anti viral, hopefully this will prevent fatigue. I was feeling pretty shattered pre rash but put it down to cookin and cleaning for 15 over Christmas.
chickencam
Poor you I hope that you throw it off pretty quickly. My mum still isn't right, some numbness in her face and can't read for long periods. She is 70 though.

Ursula123
Oh no Grandmashazzie, I do feel for you. I did have the anti virals started them the same day the rash came out. I am better but still not 100% right. I have been taking the Feroglobin capsules daily. Follow the advice that you all gave me and do rest, once I gave in and realised this things started to turn around. Wishing you well, take care of yourself

Grandmashazzie
Actually Soapdragon at the mo I feel great. Either the anti viral really sorted it or it was a misdiagnosis. The site and distribution of rash looked like shingles but they never developed into blisters.Thank you.

Ursula123
Feeling really fed up. I have shingles again, this time in my face around my right eye. Doctor says I am unlucky to have it again.
Daphne
I am so sorry to her that I wonder if it's because shingles is such a lowering disease that it can be hard to get back to normality and be able to shake things off. I am trying to send you strength.
