BOXERMAN
Thanks for all the replys about my girls, i class them as pets my housing association class them as livestock,so their rules say they must go. The letter they sent me ended with this message. QuoteI am aware that you currently have several pets in addition to the livestock including 2 dogs.I must therefore ask you to find alternative accommodation for these animals as well.Unquote. Ihave lived here for 14 years with no complaint i have 2 couch potatoe dogs 2 tortoise i have had for 43 years and my african grey Billie who now makes a noise like a chicken. I have told them i would not get rid of my other animals as they have never caused any bother, but i would find a good home for my chickens which i have.and they have agreed to this. It is a funny world when 3 chickens doing no harm must go,but the likes of people who damage property throw litter all over the place seems to be ok. My girls are going to their new home on saturday where they will be loved and i will get to see them anytime i wish. I will still log onto this site and keep up with all you nice chicken owners. arowland17
may still be worth checking their small print - i know our friends house deeds say poultry and livestock are not allowed UNLESS they are pets.... at least you have a good home for them to go to but it may be worth appealing, I know I would... I think it's ridiculous they can cause such a fuss about 3 chickens, and even if you do end up re-homing them, I'd still want to find out who complained and why... James H
what a sad world we live in. 3 harmless chickens, are you neighbours expecting a christmas card this year, i would think not, I replied to your topic when the fight was still going on, i am really sorry to hear about all of this and it upsets me to hear that 3 harmless little chickens have to go, it really makes my blood boil. good luck in the future and we all still welcome you to the forum any time, My Kindest Regards
Tina C
Read your other post and have just found this one. Just wanted to say sorry that you are having to give up your chickens. It is good to hear that you are able to keep your other pets though. However, it seems like you have had to make a compromise to do so, which does not seem very fair. I expect lots of tenants of your housing association have a variety of pets so I'm sure there is some sort of case for discrimination but it might be hard, time consuming and possibly expensive to prove. Lovemychooks
Oh no. I've just read your other post. It's such a shame that people can be that nasty and complain about a perfectly harmless group of chickens....WHY, I can't see the point in that, it makes me soooo MAD
The Dogmother
That's so sad Boxerman, but at least you get to keep your other pets. Please feel free to stay on this forum - any chook lover, whether they own any or not, is welcome on here.
JellyB
That's just so wrong. sorry to hear you have to let your girls go. I'd still fight it tho' if I were you and try and get them back.
BeckyBoo
Boxerman, I'm so sorry you've had to go through this and what a horrible decision to have to make. At least you'll still get to see your girls, they'll be well looked after. Housing Association rules and the like seem to have no basis in common sense but at the end of the day you have to live there. It doesn't seem at all fair that you've had to make this huge compromise but I can understand you not fighting, it can take a huge amount of effort both time, physical and emotional to confront beurocracy, I don't know if I could do it. Good luck with your decision, keep in touch on here, let us know how your girls get on. (And if ever one of your neighbours so much as SNIFFS at a breach of the rules you get STRAIGHT on to the Association and DEMAND results!!! ) Mrs B
chelsea
Sad to hear this. As Claret said, - come back here for a chat anytime. If I were you now, I would be on the lookout for any misbehaviour/breaking of rules in your neighbourhood and report it immediately Cant believe someone would have it in for 3 harmless chooks. Whats this country coming too
arowland17
yes, keep a special eye out for any rule-breaking by the neighbours that originally complained about your chickens... shame they've not got an illegal pet that you could report and then they could get an eviction notice and see how they like it... redfrock
ummmm .... I'm a housing officer ... runs and ducks for cover (although some of you already know this). We are not all horrid I promise. Boxerman - if you wish to PM me I could always ring you and talk the situation through with you. Could you let me know who your Housing Association is too? I may not have all the answers but I will help you as much as I can. (BTW get your MP involved straight away - that will stall them)

menagerie
I just find it terrible the way people who rent (either housing assc or council or private landlord) are treated like 2nd class citizens. It was one reason why I was so desperate to buy my house as every house I had ever rented had said no pets no children no smoking. The day after I moved into my own house I went and got my beautiful rescue kitties and I now have chooks as well and I am so happy. Also I have the option to have children if I want!!!!! I don't have any answers to it but I think it stinks.
