feemcg
As I mentioned on the 'who'll be the first to get a 2nd cube?' thread I wouldn't have another unless they made some changes. My Mark II Cube would have - 1. Rubberized/Textured ladder rungs - I hate watching my girls flapping, slipping and sliding their way to bed at night 2. A smaller ventilation hole in the nest area - by the time they've all gone in and shuffled about in the nest half the straw is lying on the run below 3. Sturdier, 2 piece roosting bars - they are flimsy and badly made and fall apart every time I remove/replace them Okay, thats my tuppence worth - would anyone else make any changes? Cinnamon
I mentioned in another post that I have decided to hold off on ordering one until the door swings open like on an Eglu, so the girls can let themselves out in the morning. I would prefer the door handle & eggport on the sme side too. And I would like some way of closing off the nest area,so none of them can sleep in there at night (unless you can do this already?.....) feemcg
Clare, I was wondering about that - will he think I'm really cheeky for starting this thread? . Maybe we should wait and see if anyone adds anything else.
The Dogmother
No Fee, he'd welcome the feedback - he doesn't get time to look at the forum these day. Send it over.
Cinnamon
I agree. James loves constructive criticism
moochoo
I would make the complete end of the run a person door so that you don't have to scrabble through the chook door to get into the run. Keep the chook door too but have the end of the run accessible.
Lesley
I was asking for better access since the Mark 1 days I'm making a big run area for the rabbits now as i haven't been able to pick them up all summer I love keeping them in an Eglu but can't reach them. I think a better, person sized, door would be a great idea.
Guest
I mentioned that you him when I spoke to him ages ago. I said I would have ordered the run if they had had a door top to bottom.
The Dogmother
Good for you Dilly - it's a bit of an oversight, isn't it?
Helen&Lee
I agree that it would be better if the Egg Port and Door Handle were on the same side - but I think that really the cubes are designed to go with the Omlet run with the idea that you have access all round. This then makes them slightly impratical if you have built your own run for it to go in or are putting it against a hedge or fence. The pictures on the website promoting them often has the right in the middle of a garden - ideal for them to get all the way round but I bet that most people put them put them nearer to hedge etc! I never had an eglu and I'm still new to the cube - I'd never thought about waiting for a Mark 2 version.....hmmm what colour shall I go for next??? Gallina
I agree that the tiny door at the end of the Cube run is dreadful. No one should have to crawl on their belly commando-style through chicken muck in order to get inside. I cannot understand why Omlet don't seem to understand that this is a major design fault. If the door were big enough so you could at least crawl in on all fours it would help a bit. But I wouldn't mind keeping the existing arrangement as it is and adding another extension with a big door. Then the little door could stay open most of the time, except when you were organizing food (great to be able to do it when the little varmints were out of the way) or if you have a hen that needs isolating. Other things are all trivial by comparison, e.g. I think the clips on the poo trays could be better: neither of my trays clicks into place any more. And I would like the roosting bars to be in two sections. I like the fact that you can't leave the Cube door on the latch: it really worries me that people do this with their Eglus. And I don't put straw in the nesting box, so I like the big hole. (Why do people put straw in the nesting box? I can't see any reason for doing this.) And my hens don't struggle with the ladder, except perhaps the Cochin, just a little: but she needs the exercise.
Snowy
If we get these to him today, do you think my cube will have the modifications on it? (he'd have 10 days to do them).

xChicken04x
I think the cube is fine space wise, but the run is a bit small in my opinion. I think the run and extention should be the normal size for 6 chickens and have the run and 2 extentions for 10 chickens. xx
feemcg
Gallina, I don't understand when you ask why people put straw in the nesting box and can't see the reason for doing it. I do it to stop the eggs dropping onto the floor and getting broken. I believe others use shredded paper, hemcore etc. Do you not use anything in yours?
Gallina
No, I don't use anything in the nesting box, and have never had a broken egg (either in the Cube or in the Eglu)! The plastic isn't very hard and the shells of my hens' eggs are very tough compared with shop eggs.
Couperwife
we always put a piece of newspaper in the nesting box and put some shredded paper on top of it. dont know if we should but they seem to like it

ubereglu
I always put stuff in the nestbox as it makes it nice and cosy for them and I think it will stop them from finding a nicer place in the garden to lay as they always are out. theherd123
It would be great if the nesting area in the cube could be blocked off at night as my girls have a habit of pooing in there. Also as they do poo in there it would be great if it had a removable tray like the poo ones
