Egluntyne
Where do you think you live. Have just been watching the news. The North South Divide has been redefined. Welcome to the north all those who live in Worcester and Gloucester. If you live in Lincoln or Leicester, you are now a southerner. Is it me? I must be looking at a different map. bronze
I dont know. I think I think of myself as a southener being from Herts but living in Norfolk I only ever think of myself as being in the east.
Looney
Having grown up near Lincoln, I can assure you that none of the native population would consider themselves as southerners We always saw ourselves as East Midlanders.....
tenzin
Come on , this was most probably discused at a large executive board meeting costing £1000 of pounds by some highly inteligent people SOUTHENER HERE
theherd123
If you live north of Crewe you are a Northerner. If you live south of the Watford Gap you are a southerner If you live in between then Lord help you!!!
Helen&Lee
Having grown up in Derby, I'm well used to being called a Northener but living on the Worcs/Shrops/Herefords border it really does seem quite ridiculous to be classed as that. I surprised they did just go along with the old thing about anyone north of Watford Gap being a Northener.... they could have have saved a fortune and written off the debt of some poor country instead. Lesley
If you live north of Crewe you are a Northerner. If you live south of the Watford Gap you are a southerner If you live in between then Lord help you!!! Hmmmmmm - well, I'm a Midlander through and through! .... and don't get me started on the Midlands weather - just take your pick from whatever is on offer from the North, South, East or West - or hang seaweed out of the window
Sheilaz
Being well south of Watford Gap, I've always been a Southerner. But, at work the nationwide shops are divided between area managers and we are Midlands. I have enough trouble remembering who I am & what day it is, let alone where I am (& should I be somewhere else?) In half a century I've been lumped into "London & the South East" or, at a pinch "Home Counties" (sounds as if we're entering ballroom dancing...representing London & the Home Counties...) But, never Midlands. Should I change jobs?

The Dogmother
It's all relative, isn't it? I was born a sountherner in Herts, then became a Londoner, and am now from the Midlands, but definitely don't have a Banbury accent! And as for the weather.. as Lesley says, it's anyones guess; Banbury seems to have its own micro-climate
Guest
.... and don't get me started on the Midlands weather - just take your pick from whatever is on offer from the North, South, East or West - or hang seaweed out of the window I know the feeling Lesley - Scottish weather stops at Dunbar, North West England weather stops at Newcastle, and here I am stuck right inbetween Dunbar and Newcastle. I tend to just pick the weather forecast that looks better for the day!
Helen&Lee
Going on a slight tangent to the orginal topic (its the mention of weather forecasts thats got me started!) Yellow Pages Directories - We get the one that covers Wales Its something to do with the days when Hereford and Worcester were one county Getting decent workmen is always a bit of a hope but I'm more likely to get them from Kidderminster (20mins away not in YP) than Powys Helen
Cate in NZ
'Tis easy for me......... I'm a southerner, and I can't see them bringing the divide down as far as me, so I'm safe
chocchick
Birmingham is the dividing line, to me Worcester is the south.

Ain't Nobody Here
I didn't like to say - what about Scotland? We're quite northy!
Snowy
We are from Lancashire but our families still talk about us having moved 'down south' to Leicestershire!
The Dogmother
Don't worry Snowy - my mother can't grasp that Banbury is in the Midlands She was talkign about The Cotswolds the other day as if it was a foreign land... I mentioned that it's just down the road from us and she was astonished.. geography's never been her strong point!
Cinnamon
Its wierd though, isn't it? Clare you are what, 25 miles from me, but I think we are in the South East, certainly not the Midlands. I always thought Birmingham was the Midlands
The Dogmother
I htink we're further than that Sarah -it's 26 miles to central Oxford. Hang on .... 63.1 miles Birmingham is West Midlands, according to the area finder thingy on our database - it auto-fills the county field with that. Cinnamon
Crikey, I thought you were this side of Oxford from us My geography is as bad as your Mothers
The Dogmother
You had me worried there for a moment because I though we were further away than 25 miles I used to work in central Oxford, that's how I know the mileage.
