Ziggy
Hi everyone, I've noticed that occasionally this forum is a good place to rant, so thought that I'd join in... I've been fighting a tummy bug for about two or three weeks now, and at the moment the bug is having the upper hand... I woke up this morning after a broken night of tummy cramps, to find I still have spasms and cramps on a more or less constant basis, felt sick, was shaking and sweating, and feeling very weak... I got my girls (human ones, not chooks) ready for school run, drove to school and came back home, and will just collapse for the day until it's time to go and pick the girls up (three are at school, fourth is a baby)... the muscle on the right side of my neck is really sore, and my lower back feels like someone has been beating me with a stick... And to top it all I have a cut under my foot and it hurts when I walk... Oh why can't there ever be an easy, uneventful, gentle week?? Hubby left for work yesterday morning and not coming back till Friday night, and we have no family nearby, so it's all up to me too... I wish I could start a petition to submit to life itself, saying 'never ever let a mother get poorly, it's not fair on her or on her kids'... Rant over... it's nice to have somewhere to pour it all out...
Louise
Ziggy I would get to the doctor as that does not sound good Are you up to date with your tetanus jabs
Cinnamon
I agree - its worth a trip to the Doctor after this length of time. Isn't it awful when we have to just carry on as if everything is normal, when its really not I have no family back-up either I have ben nowhere near as ill as you, but have been feeling queasy, weak & listless for about a week now, as has The Hubby,& he NEVER EVER gets ill.I have had a cold too, which hasn't helped. Youngest daughter has succumed today & is sleeping at the moment, between tummy cramps. Drink some warm, flat lemonade - that is supposed to help rehydrate you after a bad bug. Love & wishes for a quick recovery Edited November 6, 2007 by Guest
superjules
Sorry to hear your troubles. I hope you feel better soon. It's really tough when you don't have any other family nearby who can help out. My parents live in India and DH's mum lives 200miles away and isn't interested in being a grandmother so I know what it's like. Do you have any friends who can help out by collecting the girls from school for you? Sounds like you really need a break.
The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that Ziggy - Louise is right (she is a scientist after all ) - it sounds different from a simple tummy bug, and just the fact that it has gone on for so long and you have a fever warrants a doc visit. Rosie has had the simple queasy tummy hting that's been going round, but seems to have shaken it off now. Do get it looked at Ziggy
chickenlass
Oh please get to the doctors...you may well have an infection from the cut in your foot. Whatever is wrong I think you will need some treatment.
Egluntyne
Take yourself off to the doctors. 2 or 3 weeks is far to long to have a tummy bug. All the more important to look after yourself whilst OH is away.
Snowy
Gosh Ziggy - I'd echo what Louise has said. There is a bug going round that gives stomach cramps, but I don't think that is what you've got.
Ziggy
Hi everyone, Thanks for all the sympathy and advise... The reason I haven't been to doc yet is that there is something going round at school, and my second daughter was the first to pick it up, and I have been to doc with her twice and all I get is 'it's a virus, just wait for it to go'... I have been struggling with tummy cramps on and off for more than two weeks, and it seems other people at school have been feeling off colour for similar lengths of times... I think this morning I felt so bad because I must have got bit dehydrated in the night, and then when waking instead of being able to take it easy with a cup of tea it was all rushing packing schoolbags, swimming bags, filling school notes, getting baby dressed and so on... I felt a thousand times better after some tea... The cut on my foot only happened yesterday, so can't be the reason for feeling so bad this morning. Obviously if it doesn't get sorted very soon, or I get to feel that rotten again tonight or tomorrow morning, I'll get to a doctor, but I am thinking this morning's symptoms were more due to a combination of dehydration, lack of sleep, and having spent too many hours carrying my baby girl recently... Just wished hubby was there to make the tea for me and do the schoolruns... In real emergencies there are a friend or two I can call, but it's not easy for anyone to fit three extra kids in their car. It's time for baby's nap, so will put her down and go chill out on the sofa... just the thought of it feels like luxury... Thanks again everyone... BeckyBoo
Oh Ziggy, you poor thing, go and see the doctor, you shouldn't be ill after all this time. We all had sickness and dia, diahr, diahh....the runs a couple of weeks ago and it was awful but at least it only lasted 8 hours altho we were wiped out for a day or two afterwards. I really really hope you pick up soon, take care of yourself and yes, get someone else to pick up the kids, other mums are sure to be able to help, we're all been there. Snowy
Hope you've managed to get a rest Ziggy. I always forget to drink and don't realise until I get tummy ache or a headache Typical Mum eh?
The Dogmother
I did exactly the same this weekend Snowy - felt utter pants, had a glass of water and felt miles better
Ziggy
Same here... forget to drink until I'm so thirsty I could drink the whole contents of the fishtank!! Or then I drink tea or coffee, which doesn't help with thirst... I need to get into the habit of leaving a bottle of water on the table and sip whenever I walk past it. Ziggy
Feeling so, so much better today, not had any tummy cramps, still a little tired but otherwise ok, as seems my baby girl who is finally eating more solids again and producing 'normal' (was about to say 'nice' but thought it might not be the best word) looking and smelling nappies... It's awful to feel unwell, but gosh does it feel great when one feels good again, it's like coming through the end of a bad hangover!! Thanks again for your sympathy everyone
