Janty
Yesterday, my poor son was on the school bus when he had a bout of vomiting. One of the boys called me on his mobile, I collected him and he spent the day near the toilet. Yuk! Now I've got it. Anyone else picked it up? Does it take long to pass? Hope so. Mind you, it does give me a day or so off work to look at the chickens. There has to be some bonus to feeling yukky.
Egluntyne
We had it last year. 48 hours and then you feel as if you have been kicked in the abdomen by a horse. Very sudden onset. I remember my son saying.....I don't feel very well.....I think I'm going to be.....bleuchhh! Take it easy. I hope you feel better soon. Give him the rest of the week off school. Egluntyne
Poor lad. The advice is to stay away from work/school for at least 24 hours after the last bout of vomiting......to help prevent spreading it to others.
CatsCube
If its the winter sickness bug its ment to be a 24 hours thing but infectious for a further 48 hours. So worth keeping yourself and him off for a couple more days to avoid the spread. Hope your all feeling better soon.
Guest
Our school has advised that you should keep your children off for a further 48 hours, after the last bout of vomiting. Chookiehubbie went back to work after being off for 2 days, completely over did it, and ended up in bed for a further week after. It can really floor you, if you have a low immune system. Egluntyne
A friend of mine runs a nursery locally. She is flabbergasted at the selfishness of some parents lately who return ashen faced and sunken eyed babes to the nursery when they have clearly been up all night vomiting. The staff have all had it, but these thoughtless people just keep the infection going, and end up spreading it to other people's children. She says she now gets quite a buzz in waiting till they have had just enough time to get to work and then ringing them and asking them to come and retrieve their ill child. The most staggering reply from one mother was....sorry...it's not convenient. You find yourself wondering why some folk have children don't you. BeckyBoo
Just to echo everyones get well thoughts, we all had it late last year and it's awful although we were only actually throwing up, or in oain or the other end for about 12 hours, just recovering after that which did take a while. OH was obviously much sicker than the rest of us and took a full weekend of bed rest and sitting still (on a bar stool!)o recover enough to help out. Get well soon both of you, it's not nice at all. chickencam
Rich tea biscuits are good to nibble to get your blood sugar back up, and to test whether or not you are ready for something more. Best wishes hope you feel better soon. I hope that your son is ok, it is my daughters worst nightmare to be sick on the bus. She has a social phobia and this is how it shows itself mostly worrying about being sick in public places which of course makes her feel sick. She has a half hour bus trip to school every day and has pockets full of vomit bags and carrier bags just in case. I hate sending her to school if there is any doubt as to how well she is but since she always feels sick in the morning it is really hard to tell and with this virus it is very sudden and without warning, I would never get her out of the house again

Janty
Thanks for all your replies. We have just had water so far today. I'm hoping if we take it easy and don't rush onto solids too quickly it will sort itself out before too long.
little chickadee
Hope you're feeling well again soon Janty. I really hate being sick and have a really rubbish immune system, so hope noone gives it to me! At least you can still have contact with the outside world on the forum without any risk of infection! Lots of rest and don't go back until you're well.
Guest
DH and I had it in november. We went to our niece's 1st b'day party on the 11th (easy to remember as she was born on the 11th or the 11th) and she was ill wiht it poor little mite. We caught it from her and the next evening, one minute I was right as rain, the next I was on the loo and vomiting into the sink at the same time. It was violent stuff, really horrible! 2 hours later, DH had it. It's a vicious bug and grips hold very quickly indeed, it last about 48 hours but still took us another 3 days or so to recover and get our strength back. neither of us could get out of bed and had to get my dad to drop medication and lucozade on the doorstep for us. Best to isolate yourselves so you don't pass it on as it's virulent. Look after yourselves and hope you feel better soon. xxx

I hope you all manage to avoid it! xx
chickencam
I was much the same at her age and i am largely ok these days but often feel a bit iffy if going somewhere new. Hubby bought her some travel sickness tablets which she took every morning until they ran out and no more have been bought and no more has been said
Cinnamon
I have social phobia too, but I generally feel as if my tum is upset & I often need to dash to the loo. I feel dizzy & claustrophobic too...... Its a nightmare on planes, trains & so forth
chickencam
You always come across as so confident I keep telling ED that she is not alone and that a good percentage of the population has some hang up or other. DS is starting to show signs of this too

Guest
I also heard that you should stay at home for 48 hours after the symptoms have stopped to avoid spreading the Norovirus. It is such a nasty thing - and I really hope to avoid it. I was disgusted to hear that DD3's dancing teacher turned up to teach the lesson saying that she had the sickness bug and may need to rush to the toilet Stupid woman

Charlottechicken
Oh dear I hope you get well soon. Many years ago I had a bout of gastroenteritis, and after 24 hours was given some arrowroot powder mixed with water. It looks like wallpaper paste and tastes of nothing, but is good for your stomach to 'chew' on if you can't keep anything down, as I was unable to take even water but managed to stay hydrated with this stuff. I think it's good for stomach ulcers too
