Couperman
Now we have a bigger run, one that is big enough for ten hens and we have a Cube that will house say ten hens and since Spodge shuffled off to the big coop in the sky leaving us with only five, I thought it might be good to get another five . So I have been looking on the breeders site where we got our last bunch and it seems a little odd on the pricing front. The chooks are typically around £10 each if you buy 1-5. But, if you buy 6-25 they are only £7.50 each. So it works out £5 cheaper to buy 6 rather than 5 SOOO.... do I buy six and risk squeezing in 11 in the Cube, pay £5 extra for one less or do I buy six and accidentally on purpose let one escape back over the fence to the breeder on the way out and pretend not to notice Oh I think I will make this a poll! I think I know which way Cathy will vote Kev. Edited: I never could spell coop, hence my username!

Olly
ooh, tough one. I mean, you're paying the same anyway, it's just the breeder's pricing that changes your point of view. GET SIX! Who are the three people who have voted for the other options? They can't be regular forum members!
Chickvic
SIX! I swear I could 6 in my eglu! The 3 I've got manage to squash into the smallest amount of space

Keanie Bean
5 is just such a bad number dont you think? Six, yep that sounds so much more rounded. Sarah.x
Ain't Nobody Here
Hmm, what a difficult decision . This needs careful deliberation and consideration of the consequences of having an extra hen over and above the number that you had originally decided to purchase . It's obvious isn't it - the number 6 has the shape of an egg in it, sort of, and 5 just isn't the shape of anything so it's obviously a sign from the chicken gods . It's got to be six . superjules
I wonder who voted for 5 on the poll then? They are keeping a low profile.

Suzie
six, seis, sechs and all other words that mean six. I mean eggs typically come in boxes of six don't they?
Christian
six, seis, sechs and all other words that mean six. I mean eggs typically come in boxes of six don't they? A very good argument there!
Helen&Lee
Six of course! I had all 4 Brahmas in the cube nesting box at the same time at the weekend - based on that I'd squeeze 12 in the cube Helen
Suzie
I thought so, especially so early in the morning. I've just reserved 3 ex-batts and know that I won't be able to stop at 3. I can predict that we'll sell the eglu, buy a cube and have a whole flock! You still in any doubt couperman, or do you need more convincing? Egluntyne
I am surprised that 2 people have voted to buy six and forget to take one home!
Scooby
SIX!!! I'm sure they will be fine snuggled in together in the cube
hillfamily
Cathy..........didn't quite catch your answer Definitely buy, collect and take home 6 Then you'll have a nice round 11..........they can be called 'the legs 11 girls'
MedusA
Well economic sense says...... 6 Who can argue with the maths? You could always get an extension!
Tina C
But if you get an extension don't re-do do the maths If you lived nearer I would say get six and give one to me
BarbaraJ
lol i clicked the last one only because i thought only 5 was wanted so that was the cheapest option. With careful consideration go for
BeckyBoo
Get 6. I've got 11 standard hens and two bantams in our cube and there's STILL room for one or two more. As long as you've got the run room or enough free ranging then cube size is almost immaterial. Mrs B

A very good argument there! This is true but they do come in boxes of ten rather than eleven! I haven't voted yet by the way. Kev.
