I've finally convinced my boss that he needs to get a satnav... nothing fancy mind, just something to stop him getting lost!

 

Any recommendations for a fairly basic one?

The only thing I know about satnavs is that everyone who has tried to use one to get to my house, has been sent miles up the M6 the wrong way!

Andy has just bought a Garmin nuvi. We used it to get to see you on Sunday . It took us door to door (via the custom motorbike show ). It beats the other two that have passed through this household hands down - oh and we got a really good price at Halfords. We've had it 4 weeks. I used it recently as well and found it very user friendly.

Can you change the voices on it? He 'doesn't want a woman telling him what to do'!!! Apparently he gets enough of that with me at work

We bought a Tom Tom One (about £120) for our Welsh holiday at the beginning of April and we have been very pleased with it.

 

I started a thread about this st the end of march on which i had some good replies.

yes there are all sorts on there (I recommend you somehow find a way of recording your voice on it just for a giggle!) - a variety of nationalities and sexes

I've got a TomTom One.

I bought a Tomtom one after reading the recomendations here. It is easy to use which is a good thing in my case

 

It comes with pre loaded voices, male and female or you can download different ones from the tomtom website.

 

Mine was about £115 from currys. I also bought a case and mains charger which cost £15.99 (these were on offer BOGOF).

We have a VDO Dayton but not sure I'd recommend it - I think there are better and cheaper!

 

But OH quite likes the woman telling him what to do - he says at least she asks nicely

Go for Tom Tom Claret, really they are the best we have tried (have had several differnt ones!)

I love Jane too, wouldn't be without her - and she's been a loyal travelling companion for about 5 years now I paid £469 for a TomTom GO300 when they were new to the market, but got a TomTom One for Anita at Makro the other week, £79.99+VAT

 

She's pleased with it too, much more than her Garmin, although it was a very basic one.

Sat Nav has saved the day for my son.

He blagged his way into a job which requires a long commute around M25 into East London, yet had not been driving long. Hardly left St.A. before, never been on motorway. He has trouble interpreting maps.

 

Day before he started went out & bought a Tom Tom, about £120 I think. Totally brilliant!

 

As Lesley will confirm, & previous post said, Sat Nav. can be hopeless on some things......such as my house. Also, if a road is closed or the link drops out occasionally, it's essential to have a map as backup, and to have some idea of the route first.

 

But Clare, it sounds a good idea for your boss & Tom Tom is pip squeak easy.

I can no longer cope with the OH thinking he knows where he is going and me actually knowing where we are going

 

If we get SatNAv at least we can blame that if we take a wrong turn and not each other

We have the same problem (without the M6 bit) We don't exist on most Satnavs, including our own

 

We bought a TomTom One V3 Europe and it has been very good - much bette than the Navman we used to have which was nearly flung out of the window on every trip

 

All the way up the High Street when visiting Sheila, it was telling us to perform a U turn - Sheila was on the phone and could hear it and telling me to keep going. Even at the turn into Sheila's road the stupid thing was telling us to turn in the other direction
