Egluntyne
Have spent the morning at the Royal Hallamshire having a minor op...under local.....nowt serious....and blow me down if the conversation didn't meander round to chickens....and it turned out that the surgeon has nine! Just wondered if anyone else had encountered a fellow hen keeper under unlikely circumstances?
Aunty e
In a meeting with senior civil servants about freedom of information requests we discovered that we all had chickens - but then the request was about egg labeliing
Olly
chatting to the butchery counter assistant at Waitrose, I mentioned chickens ( how on earth did I manage to get them into the conversation? ) and she used to keep bantams.
The Dogmother
I've had that recently too - 3 people who have collected freecycle items from me in the last week have either got chooks or want some. On eof the people who attended my advanced course on Sunday is a Doctor - she took her paperwork to her review in her Omlet bag, and got chatting about chickens with the person reviewing her I've made loads of friend from circumstances like that. Snowy
We had some building work done on our front porch last year and the chap who replaced the guttering kept chickens. I'm sure he spent more time drinking tea and chatting to my chooks than he did sorting the gutters out! Just a good job it was the insurance company paying him rather than me! Cinnamon
I found someone at a funeral once. And a checkout girl at Tesco too And the lady who came around from environmental health to check out a noise complaint I made She saw a Glug on the drainer & said 'Oooo- have you got an Eglu? - I really want one for my hens' Edited May 20, 2008 by Guest

Charlottechicken
There's not many chicken keepers round these parts I haven't met another, but I don't mind being known as a chicken pioneer (or that mad woman in the second hand clothes with chicken poop on her shoes ) Ooh, I love Helen's wheelchair smiley too
Tessa the Duchess
I know of 3 other chicken keepers in N.London, I met 2 of them on Freecycle and the other joined the forum. I know there is somebody really close to where I live because the guy that delivers my chicken supplies from Titmuss told me there is somebody that lives 'just round the corner' but annoyingly he wouldn't give me their address Tessa
Janty
I met a nurse who keeps chickens when I had to go to our local hospital after cutting my finger in the Easter hols.
BeckyBoo
A rather posh and frightfully nice, very neat and tidy lady who I go to slimming world with has 3 hens. Like Clash City Rocker said - "chickens are the new rock and roll!" Mrs B

crazygal
Two of my friends in my book club have them. The man who fitted our new boiler's daughter has them. Someone I work with has some. and lots and lots of people I know want them!!! It's really common round here...but still 4 months on I'm getting people saying to me "have you got chickens?!!" because their children have spotted them
Ange1
A lady in the village has them - but I never knew and I only realised when I spotted her 'free range eggs' for sale sign and knocked on the door! She invited me round the back and introdoced me to her girls all 30 of them!!! Wonderfull. Oddly though she didn't have any eggs for sale as she has broody hens and the other girls are hiding them around the garden and the lady has no idea how old they are when she does find them! Are all hen owners lovely or is it just coincidence?!
Clash City Rocker
I was having a Beer after a round of Golf on Sunday when a woman came over and asked me "Are you the chicken man" ? She got 2 Gingernuts and an Eglu from Omlet last month and is desperate for them to start laying. She doesn't use the message board was going home to have a look at it!!! Olly
The man who fitted our new boiler's daughter has them. Your boiler has a daughter? What did he fit her with ... oh, I see! Sorry Crazygal, couldn't resist - I thought I'd get that one in before ANH, she's usually quick off the mark!
bronze
I can't think of any unusual ones. I was accosted at the checkout and the woman serving wanted to make sure I bought free range eggs so I said I didn't... she started her spiel and I had to intterupt to say I didn't buy eggs cos I had my girls. I should think a lot of people round here have chickens. Matthews class has 11 children in it including him and he has them and two of the other children live in farms. I would say that was a fairly high percentage.
chocchick
I found an eglu at the bottom of my road. Even though you had to peer round a hedge a bit to see After investigating the forum found they'd had chickens longer than us and were about to move. We just thought we were the only ones on the road

surferdog
My Mum! When we got our chickens she told us how she used to keep pullets when she was a teenager - hatching from eggs and everything! She had never ever mentioned it before...
