jess
well at the age of 21 i have decided to learn to ride a bike, i have always had a strong fear of them for some reason anyway i tried today and i was absolutely terrified i am usually pretty fearless but for some reason put me within ten feet of a bike and i flip out :C i see other people riding them it looks like so much fun :C
One Man Banned
well done for getting on there and facing it though. It won't be nearly as difficult next time now! Having always riden bikes I find it hard to think that I have never riden before, perhaps I should think of it like riding a horse, something I have never done! Are you going to try again? jess
i will, i want to so badly when i see people on them my heart like, flies, i want to ride one so much and it looks like so much fun but the barrier up between me and the bike is so huge and its so irrational i think i will have another go tomorrow if i keep trying sURELY i can do it but it feels like i can never ever do it right now
Karen & co.
Jess that's brill that you are going to have a go, well done you Don't bother trying to ride it just yet, just get the hang of sitting on and pushing around with one foot on the peddle or both pushing along the floor that way you get the feel for strearing and braking. Try this somewhere flat and wide if poss, once you feel confident doing this you could try with your feet on the pedals and after a while you won't even know your off cycling unaided You will be able to do it, sometimes it just takes a little determination and it sounds like you already have that karen x
buffie
Well done jess and keep trying...the fear stops us doing things doesn't it but I often find it's never as bad as I thought it would be! BBx

AnnieP
Good on ya Jess! I'm scared about this tandem we've got coming by the weekend.... I'm sure we'll fall off! Once we're experts, I'll cycle along to you and you can have a go on the back Keep trying, just remember you can always put your foot down to stop. You really won't fall. Good luck! The Dogmother
Well done Jess, keep going and conquer that fear. You want to, which is half the battle. I have just got Rosie off her stabilisers, which was accompanied by histrionics, but she loves it now.

jess
Thank you EVERYONE for all your amazing support! Today my mother very kindly bought me a bicycle of my own, for my twenty first birthday it doesnt have that thing on the back wheel the compartment and the seat is the lowest it will go but i am trying really hard!! its TERRIFYINg lifting my feet up when the bike goes down a hill and i havent quite mastered it, and i am doing it alone everyone else i know learnt when they were five if i ever have kids i am going to enstill it into them a.s.a.p its so much fun just pushing it along though expect a very enthralled post when i learn to ride it eventually how long will it take i wondeR?[/img]
Sheilaz
....its so much fun just pushing it along though... Jess, I think that's the answer. If you just scoot along at first with your toes touching the ground, you will soon get a feel for it. Then, as balance becomes less terrifying, give the occasional pedal too. Before you know it, you will feel as if the bike is part of you, and you'll be off! Wonderful new bike, that's really encouraging of your Mother. I'm sure you & Michelle (well, my bike was called that ) will soon be inseparable! Good luck. xxx
AnnieP
Great bike Jess! Congratulations! Just scooting along is the way to go.... when you feel less wobbly you'll be able to put your feet on those pedals! Our tandem arrived yesterday: She is called Vicky. Will post pictures at some stage. So what are you going to call her?
Guest
Jess, if you'd like - PM me your details and I will send you a DVD which demonstrates a failsafe way to learn how to ride a bike - with no falling off, "Ooops, word censored!"ody running along behind holding the saddle, and no rolling down a hill being petrified of crashing into something - and achievable in an hour or so (honest!) piggyonemoon
hi - Jess, I know exactly how you feel! I'm in my thirties and I can't ride a bike either. when it comes up in conversations, people are always amazed, but I nver had one when i was little to learn on. then as i got older, i was too embarrased and scared of falling off and hurting myself. i've often looked enviously at people riding and i've thought many times that i would learn, but i haven't got bike, can't afford to buy one and don't know anyone that i could borrow one off. hope you get on ok. i've always said that i'm detemined to learn to ride before my son does, so i need to get a move on really. please let me know how you fare and is it as esy as they keep saying? the only thing in my favour is that i can swim well - which still some people cant do good luck
