Ain't Nobody Here
Got a call from school today saying YS needed to go to A&E to get his shoulder looked at. He's broken his acromion (never heard of it ) so his Duke of Edinburgh camping w/e on Friday is off . As is his football, cycling and fell running for the next few weeks . Who did it? ES . (A rugby tackle while playing football at breaktime . Maybe he'll believe me next time I tell him he's too big to be chucking himself and his brother about .) ChrisP
Ooooh I think that's what I broke, I forget the name of the bone, but was in the shoulder area, from a stupid football tackle, about 5/6 years ago Hope he's ok soon, mine was bad for a while
Lesley
I hadn't heard of it until Lauren had problems with her shoulders dislocating. I hope he's soon fit and well again - shame he has to miss so much.

LisaP
Oh I'm sorry to hear that, poor chap. I hope he's not too uncomfortable but I'm sure he's miffed at not being able to go away. By the way I'd never heard of the acromion bone either Lisa P

Plum
Ow poor boy, hope he heals quick.
bluekarin
ouch! I wish him a speedy recovery. Tell him to aviod fizzy drinks as this inhibits bone healing. I learnt this when I broke my ankle. Also, maybe take some calcium tablets to help faster bone regrowth.
Egluntyne
Rotten luck. I hope he isn't in too much discomfort.

Cooks
ooh poor thing, I hope he's not in too much discomfort. I ahve two boys as well so I know how that goes very well! I was up A&E with my oldest this afternoon, the school called me to say he'd fallen over hard and landed on someones bag (which turned out to have had heavy items in) and he's injured his ribs.. I said there's little they can do for ribs, but the school wanted him checked so... off we went for a 3 hour wait up the hospital to be told there's nothing they can do, keep an eye on his breathing pattern as at the moment he's only taking shallow breaths as it hurts to breath deeply... Boys.. I give up..

What a coincidence . Somehow we got taken straight away (didn't even sit down in the waiting room) so were in and out in just over an hour . Hope your boy feels better soon . Thanks for your good wishes. He's managing to play computer games so is quite happy . It's painful when he tries to move it so as long as he stays at the PC all day and night, he'll be fine . Thanks for the tip about fizzy drinks and calcium tablets .
Sunshine
Oo painful. How long will it take to recover? My little sister is currently seeing specialsts as a bone on the front of her shoulder pops out if she raises her arm. She has been to the doctors who referred her to one specialist who said it was nothing to worry about it was just the bones adjusting or growing(something along those lines). However she has now been referred to a bone specialist so she is off to an appointment there soon as they will know more about it. Its really odd and horrible to touch it when it pops if your squemish(sp?) I bet he is disapointed that he can't take part in his D of E and sporting actvities. Wouldn't be a problem for me as i'm not sporty in the slightest! Emma

Karen & co.
My YS did something similar just before Christmas, 2 weeks later ES broke his leg, both playing rugby YS had a dance show too, practises with a sling on were interesting for him so after the shoulder healed he avoided rugby untill about 3 weeks ago to take part in the show uninjured Hope your sons feel better soon Cookie Monster and ANH Karen x

Richard T
maybe take some calcium tablets to help faster bone regrowth. Or could you mix some oystershell or crushed egg shell in a porridge with sultanas, honey and bokashi bran? I hope he's better soon.
Ain't Nobody Here
Just back from the fracture clinic. It's not a broken acromion after all . The consultant said he could see why the A&E staff thought that but he thinks it's just ligament damage (which can be just as painful). So 2 or 3 weeks should see him alright. Got another appt in 3 weeks but we can cancel if he feels it's OK. So that's a relief (haven't told ES yet, there's a bit more mileage to be got yet ). Cooks
Oh that's good news ANH, he will still be sore for a while though, ligaments take ages to heal up sometimes.
LisaP
That's good news How long do you think is a reasonable time to withhold info from ES Lisa P
Gamebird
Poor chap. Hopefully it should heal quite quickly as he is young and fit. I smashed my clavicle into 4 pieces in a riding accident. One of the breaks was where the clavicle attaches to the acromion. My left shoulder is now held together with a stainless plate and 9 screws. Just think, he now has the opportunity to increase his computer game skills to a much higher degree.

Ouch, that sounds really nasty . Does it give you any grief now? Fortunately YS has a fairly new computer game which obviously requires hours and hours of input so that's good . How long do you think is a reasonable time to withhold info from ES Sadly, he knows already . YS doesn't seem to be holding it against him, so he's completely blase about it all now .
