Yorkshire Pudding
I was 40 a couple of weeks ago, and we were celebrating with a short break, the birthday twist being that I didn't know the destination. OH has surpassed himself. I have just got back from a lovely weekend in bright sunshine, in Venice! I'd always wanted to go there but didn't expect it, as OH and both the friends we travelled with had already visited. we stayed in a hotel right next to the Rialto bridge, had lovely meals and to top it all he had bought and smuggled along a diamond eternity ring. This is extra special, as my engagement ring was bought for the princely sum of £12 when we were poor students, and is very fragile and not wearable. For years I have been quietly envious of the beautiful engagement and eternity rings worn by my sister and friends, but worn only my wedding ring as I had no other to go with it. I'm not a big 'bling' girl, and it isn't a big bling ring, but it is so lovely I was overwhelmed. Added to that, our friends announced that they are expecting twins, and I couldn't have had a better weekend!

bluekarin
ahh that is such a wonderful thing for him to do! I am still waiting for my eternity ring. We'll only be 14 years married this year (20 years together) I had dropped huge hints about my 40th in 2 1/2 years as I want to see the Northern Lights. We shall see what happens. I went to Venice for just day when I went on holiday with my best friend and her family to Yugoslavia. Such a beautiful place and it was very hot when we went. I've still got a little mask I bought

Jules.
Lovely news all round I have an eternity ring, bought in the year 2000, from the spending money we didn't spend on holiday in America as we sadly had to return home early. The ring was bought from the shop we got our wedding rings from , & was in the sale It's the only expensive thing we have that we have to "declare" on the house insurance My engagement ring is only a "token" too, & I don't wear it any more I am too practical- it was either a solitaire engagement ring, or a sizable house deposit. I insisted we saved the money for the deposit, & so can only blame myself

mostin
A belated happy birthday . What a lovely suprise, and jewellery too , how sweet of him to take you somewhere so romantic, and spoil you. I love shiny things . My OH always jokes that the reason I never married him for so long was so I could get a bigger engagement ring . Not at all true of course (but if was a nice bonus ).
