Dave36
Hi All I have lost 5 Hens this morning to a fox, just thought i would share this with you i purchased a foxwatch only last week after a year of having the girls, i run this on a battery as i thought the mains adapter came with it and it said it would last 3 months on a battery (did it hell) one week thats all. The fox got in umder there gate in the walk in run, i didnt lock there eglu door and now they are dead. I guess we sometimes have to learn the hardway through someones exspense this time it was me and my girls. I supose like a few of us we get a little complacent, but all i can say to any new owner of chickens ducks rabbits etc is GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME if you have a fox around he will get them. RIP: 2 Stars 1 Warren 1 Pepperpot 1 Ranger Dave & Jo

Guest
HI sorry to hear about the chickens I had a fox in the garden when my husband and spaniel were within 20 yards of the chickens, just a couple of days ago he only knew as the chickens went mad. The only thing that will stop the fox is the electric fencing or a secure run with roof and good anti digging skirt. I am sceptical about foxwatch I just dont think the guarantee is 100% it is a bit wishy washy. What a shame as it can happen so easily, they are not called cunning for no reason and I know the fox we saw the other day will be back, guaranteed. But am sorry to hear of it poor girls indie
LorMac
I'm so sorry to hear that Dave I too have recently learnt the hard way. I'd had my hens for nearly 1 year with a walk in run until 3 weeks ago when I woke up to find all 7 gone. I left the door open to the eglu so the girls could get up at dawn instead of waiting for me to get up. No one had even seen any foxes in the area and I took it for granted that the fencing I'd built would be sufficient. How wrong I was. I've now bought the 3m run to go on my eglu cube to make sure it doesn't happen again. I wish I'd just bought the run in the first place instead of trying to save money and doing it myself. I'd much rather have paid out than have to feel this guilt! Take care xx

Ain't Nobody Here
I'm so sorry to hear that, Dave . What a horrible shock for you . Have you contacted Foxwatch to tell them the battery only lasts a week although they are advertising 3 months ?

Budgies
So sorry to hear this, Dave. I know everyone says that the Foxwatch is best powered by mains supply as it eats batteries, but if their claim is 3 months and you only got 1 week out of the battery, I'm wondering could it be a faulty one? I'd definitely contact the manufacturer. RIP your ladies.

redranger
So sorry to hear your news Dave and Jo. These foxes are a blasted menace. Sorry your foxwatch failed too - maybe it was a didgy battery?? Even with a foxwatch or other deterrants, we can never afford to get too complacent - the consequences are just too serious

Peaches
Dave - just wanted to say I'm sorry about this too. I was kicking myself because I let one of my spaniels get at one of the chickens and hurt her. Then a week or so later she died and I was distraught. The thing is, foxes are incredibly determined - all that food sat there for the taking in one place. I pray I shan't lose my girls to a fox, so thanks for the warning. I hope Bodie gets her flock soon. Fiona

blackgold
So sorry to hear the news. My WIR is actually a dog run and no fox can get in...... When my hens free range they always have a couple of border collie minders. My run cost about £300. Please look at my collie talk spaces. Hugs to you. Whereabout do you live? There is a rescue of exbatts in Liverpool this week and i know some hens are not booked yet.
