So pleased to read your post above, and to see that as a family you have managed to come to terms with what happened, and that Tom is now receiving the care he deserves. Good luck with your fight for the truth.

This says better than I could what I felt on reading your post. So glad you are more positive. We all admire your strength in fighting for what is best for Tom.

I just wanted to say that reading your update was very moving, and I really take my hat off to you for all you have done in such difficult and challenging circumstances..... I am overwhelmed really.... I think it was the Beatles that said "Love is all you need". .... I think you have proved them right.xxx

Thanks for your kind words but I'm sure all the lovely omleters would do the same as me. None of us have an easy life, we all have our challenges but when something like this happens it makes you rethink your priorities. May we all just step back and be more tolerant when our loved ones drive us everso slightly mad because none of us know what is around the corner.

I so admire how you stay so positive and fight for Tom when it would be easy to accept that this is the way it is. You are changing things for others in the same situation as well as justice for yourselves. Much better for people to be open rather than be afraid of saying things have gone wrong.

Best wishes to you all and Tom x

I've just read this from the beginning and to be honest I am amazed by the love that you have shown for your brother-I know for you its just what your family do but I dont have that sort of relationship with my family..you have my

uppermost respect..

I hope things improve for Tom and that you get all that you deserve

I wanted to update because today we had our meeting with the CQC, PCT and Tom's previous care home. The care home were insistant that Tom's arm could have been trapped by Tom coughing and shifting his own weight. Obviously this was an impossibility because Tom has a strap to hold his head in the headrest and shoulder straps to ensure he can't move forward. Eventually the CH admitted the most likely scenario is that Tom was put in his chair incorrectly by a member of staff and apologised if that was the case. I think everyone there knew that it could only have been poor positioning and for me that was enough.

They also admitted that on occassion Tom was not given all his food and that in other areas they fell short of the expected care levels. This was all we wanted, an acknowledgement that his care had been poor and that they apologised for it. Obviously it all took a very long time (2 hours) and we were given assurances that changes had been made. I don't suppose anything has really changed but the authorities are now aware of what has gone on and the CH had to admit to aspects they had previusly denied. We can walk away with our consciences clear that we have done what we can it improve the home for those left behind.

Tom is relaxed and cared for. Under the circumstances life is good for Tom and his family. I want to thank everyone on here that has supported me through the last 2 1/2 years when I have been at a very low point. The bad is behind us now and I have confidence that life is becoming good again. Thank you all so much, you are all  .

I'm so pleased that things are a little better for you these days.

It's great news that you have managed to get them to accept some fault in the standard of care they provided for Tom. I'm sure that all your efforts will help to ensure that other people at the home will benefit from better care. :D

Me neither. I really admire the way you and your family have dealt with this heartbreaking situation - so glad to hear you got an apology from them. It doesn't put things right, but it does acknowledge that they were wrong and may stop this happening again. Good to know that Tom is now being well looked after, and that things are at last improving for you.

Yes, thanks for the update, Shirl. I too remember the original post and was also shocked at how long ago it was.

It must be a relief to know the care home have at last apologised. Whilst it's understandable that due to human error mistakes do happen, it is so frustrating when they then deny it! Good for you for persuing the issue to a satisfactory conclusion.

Please accept my best wishes for you, Tom and your family. *hugs*
