emmamakeup
I have a large black compost bin that I received free from the council (it's a similar size to a wheelie bin). It's not a very nice looking accessory to my garden and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get one half the size and that also looks really nice? KateG
I think they are all pretty ugly to be honest. I'd probably try to cover it- put one of those willow screens around it or something along those lines. Do all councils offer free bins?! carrie
I saw a fab one the other day on a visit to Erddig country house in Wales they were having a 'green day'. It was an orange pig which tumbled from side to side, you lift it's head up to put the composting stuff in and it comes out the other end . I really want a couple of pigs (the real kind) so other half was joking that I could have my pigs Here the link www.rolypig.com/rolypig.php (I want one)
carrie
Just had a good look at the website. Can't afford one Looks like I'll have to get the real thing instead Like the kitchen piglet though!
emmamakeup
I just had a search on the internet and Kirklees give our free compost bins. It's plastic in black. Not very nice. I've had to cut one of my shrubs down as it wasn't looking good but now realised that the bin looks far worse As I don't have a massive garden I only need one half the size to service the area. Guest
I don't mind them TBH, ours is the big black plastic kind but I suppose it's sort of out of sight at the end of the garden http://www.liverpoolpoet.talktalk.net/may13.10.jpg you can just see it on the left. It cost us £9, it was subsidised by the council. Those of you who get them free shouldn't look a gift bin in the mouth!
stoice
These are pricey but lovely. Maybe you know someone 'handy' who could make you one cheaper?
Cinnamon
I saw some really nice wheelie bin hiding screens in the Sunday papers this week, which would also hide an ugly composter well. THIS sort of thing.

The Spencers
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think there's a reason there ugly things. The black plastic absorbs heat from the sun which speeds up the processes in compost production - or something
Guest
woo hoo! Just won a free green one on freecycle!
Olly
Or you could go to www.pimpmybin.co.uk - yes, really! - for wheelie bin stickers. One of the floral ones might make it blend in a bit more, or you could make a statement of it and have something really striking!
Christian
I have been after a bee hive composter for ages, but they are way too expensive We have 3 from our local council for £6 each I think

Ain't Nobody Here
We can get these through our subsidised Council scheme. Scroll down to the bottom to see the green ones. They're a bit nicer looking than the tardis type ones.
Blackrocksrock
We got the Komp 200m ones subsidised at £5 as we dont get a collection in the countryside of green waste bins like the towns do - I have 2 of them and I have 5 other different ones scattered round the garden at strategic points - I have a rather large green with loads and loads of trees and shrubs garden. I would like it to be a woodland walk with perenniels.
emmamakeup
Thanks everyone for your replies. Thinking about it I really shouldn't grumble - it was a free bin and it definitely does the job. I love the look of the beehive ones and I found one of those on the internet yesterday for around £40 which is loads cheaper than the other ones. My garden's flourished this year with the use of my home made compost and so it's definitely worth it's place in the garden. Fab weather today!!!! theherd123
I have 4 big black composters - all full and a bee hive composter too - cant remember where we bought it now but it was much cheaper than 100 quid! As i recall it came flat pack and untreated.

I have seen it all now
Happy chickens!
You always need more bins than you think, especially with all that fab chicken manure! Hold onto it but hide it if you can. 3 bins make better, faster compost, if you can be bothered with turning it....

Valkyrie
Someone along our road has a green leaf print stuck all over their wheelie bin. It blends in well with the garden, but that has been around quite a long time. A nursery school has painted a Mr Man on theirs.

snowcloud
I made a huge one from 'gravel board's and it's much bigger and stronger than any I could buy - and much cheaper too... ...as you can see I made it in the winter and it has four 1.5m square areas with a path down the middle... more details on the blog, scroll down past the pig pictures...
