Ain't Nobody Here

We're off ...

Wow, sounds fantastic. :D

We have just come back from the Lake District - climbing up the Fells with "Ooops, word censored!"ody in sight - bliss :D

Unfortunately, I didn't lose any weight (but didn't put on any either) but I felt so pleased with myself for having climbed and walked so far that I indulged in too much wine and food as a reward.

I hope you have a wonderful time and not too many midges.

Oh you will have such a fantastic time. The scenery is just out of this world. You could be in the rocky mountains in Canada. Unbelievable.

We stayed in Laide which is about 10 miles north of Poolewe. The beaches around there are amazing. You can walk for miles on perfect sand and we never saw anyone else on them the whole week we were there. I think it was the one at Melon Udringle where they had sheep on the beach. We went late one night and had a heck of a shock when we walked over the top of the dunes and saw them all sleeping. We were playing football on the beach with DS at midnight as it was still light

I'm so jealous  Hopefully one day we will get back there again. Though it's a very long 10 hour drive from here. A word of warning (if you do need one) get your food shopping on the way as you come through the last big town. For us that was in Ullapool, which was about 45 miles away. Unfortunately, we didn't realise quite how isolated we were in terms of food shops and bypassed Ullapool on the way to the cottage, then had to go all the way back just to stock up for the week. There is a tiny little minimarket in Gairloch but they don't have much just very basic essentials.

If you do get chance, pop to Gairloch and say hello to Sammy the Seal. Terribly sad story that he was shot by fisherman who were annoyed that he was taking their catch. Fortunately he survived. Now he just stays in the harbour. He's absolutely beautiful http://farm1.static.flickr.com/73/222739196_cf6e96f5c3.jpg?v=0

There are so many stunning places to visit. Inverewe Gardens are really nice (and very tropical) if you are into that sort of thing. There is the beautiful Flowerdale waterfall just outside Gairloch. There were loads of delicious wild strawberries growing around there too :D The drive along Loch Maree is just out of this world as is most of the scenery up there.

There is a fabulous pub in Drumchork near Aultbea called the Drumchork Lodge Hotel. We had some fantastic evenings in there. I can't remember how many different malts they had behind the bar but I've never seen anything like it

Have a fantastic time and make sure you take lots of piccies !!

xx
