Youngest son just admitted to hospital with severe dehydration possible appendicitis. Seeing consultant at four. Three guests travelling up from deepest England arrive in an hour staying until Monday and we have about 20 coming tomorrow for a post Air Show barbecue. Permission to chicken out? Mums cope! Guests were brilliant and said they were going to leave early today and when we got up they had gone! The Air Show was wonderful, weather wise it was the best day we have had the whole summer. Phone call from lad in A and he was fine, 'dry, hot and dusty here' he said' but don't worry.' Nothing but praise for the NHS up here, after my call to the doc on Friday he was seen by the Gp within an hour and then an hour later he was in a hospital bed with an IV up. Send him lots of parcels - my sisters fave things to get are ginger cake (home made and it gets stickier and yummier in the week to 10 days it takes to get there- wrapped in greaseproof paper and clingfilm and bubble wrap inside a lunchbox - comes up to just under the weight limit for post) and also Haribo (they don't melt). When she is away we all try and write/ email/ send an ebluey just to make that extra effort - she is now safely back in Germany but will no doubt go again all too soon. It contained amongst other things, M&S marshmallows with chocolate dip, some animal modelling balloons, dried apricots, ( a firm favourite and great for energy) A funny family picture and sticky fixers to stick it to the side of the tent and some posh M&S crackers with olives and nuts in! It is great that we can get to send free parcels up to 2kg at a time plus free e-blueys and letters. A few folk have asked about sending gift parcels to soldiers but the Army discourage it as mail space on the aircraft is at a premium and lots of packages addressed to 'an unknown soldier' sort of clogs up the supply lines , space on the RAF aircraft is at a premium for other essential things. I am sure one of the national daily papers will have a pressies for the troops campaign by Christmas bearing in mind the terrible toll it has taken on brave young men and women this year and they may arrange their own supply methods. Of course 'Help for Heroes' is always is a great way to shop and to help injured soldiers get back on their feet. Wristbands are £2 and car stickers also £2, all my family and friends have them and every little helps. Jillus Posted September 25, 2009 Author Share Posted September 25, 2009 Did anyone watch WOUNDED on BBC 1 on Wednesday night, I was only able to see it yesterday and it was amazing. It showed exactly why the boys are considered heroes, the courage, and humour of the lads shone through and it made me really proud to be the Mum of a soldier. If you did not see it, you may not find it comfortable viewing, for me it was a bit close to home ,but I do urge you to catch it on iPlayer.
