Autumn .... Halloween .... Bonfire Night ..... Oooh Ahhh

Recommended Posts

Just read the thread about Christmas and althought I love it .... what about the joys of autumn. Those lovely chilly mornings ..... long walks with the family crunching through the fallen golden leaves .... back to tea and crumpets toasted on the fire followed by lovely homemade cake ..... Halloween .... Bonfire Night and that lovely smell of log fires.

My son who is 6 said to me yesterday .... is it autumn now? ... so I said yes and he said does that mean all the leaves will go red and golden and fall off of the trees? ... so I said yes. He said I LOVE AUTUMN AND CRUNCHING THROUGH THE LEAVES .... THATS MY FAVOURITE THING .... so sweet ..... so he does listen to me :D

I have to agree.

I have a particular love of (when I have to get up early, which is more often than I'd like) getting outside first thing on a November morning when the frost on the ground is fresh and has sucked all the humidity, leaving the air crystal clear. There's not a cloud in the sky and the sun is particularly bright, highlighting those golden and russet leaves with a brilliance that really takes my breath away. If I'm lucky, it's also a weekend morning and I can still find some horse mushrooms in one of the local fields, meaning I can get back a little later and cook up a really special breakfast.

No other time of the year comes close.

I love the nature, just dont like the dark days and try and get out. OH gets very morose as hes of Med origins and like his sun. I dont want to think of Xmas yet, at work we are mega busy - flu jabs, swine flu when they get their act together and more flu jabs. roll on spring

Acorns, conkers, wathing the squirrels, choosing a nice woolly scarf & a hat to put on, buying snuggly jumpers. I like putting in my spring bulbs too.

Oooo wait a minute, there's a squirrel on the garage roof right now!!! :D:shock:

We shall soon be lighting the fire too. We shall be using a fire guard from now on with Poppysox! I love roaring fires sat in your snuggly PJ's at night

However I don't like the shorter days, as I worry about the girls & foxy loxy lurking around more. :anxious:

Place to be avoided at this time of year - under the oak tree! Those acorns don't half hurt when they drop on your head. Hear them smacking the cube.

Lovely leaves kick them around hehehe. Lots of conkers everywhere at the moment. Big ones too. Our oak has had huge acorns this year - obviously had the right weather for the trees.

Hmmm gingerbread men on bonfire night - yummmmm. :D

It's my favourite time of year, always makes me think of going back to school for a new term (new school shoes, new pencil case and moving up a class).

And especially for me over the last few years, autumn means rehearsing carols and Christmas songs with my choir - we are doing Benjamin Britten's 'Ceremony of Carols' again this year, and it is the most uplifting, wonderful music to sing.

It's also my birthday soon :D

I love autumn leaves, casseroles, hats and scarves, and the cat coming in with chilly fur from outside.

I was in Tesco and could hear this oooooooooooooooooh noise from outside - sounded like police siriens - constant. It went on and on and eventually cottoned on it was a ghostly noise over tannoy to do with halloween  I asked the cashier who rolled her eyes and said it was giving her a headache - she then called a guy over and said "customer complaining about the noise" I did tell him it sounded like a police raid. Poor girl only another 29 days to go. Yup its Autumn

That's more like it chaps!

None of this Christmas rubbish! Let's all live for the moment - enjoy what we have - a season of mists and mellow fruitfulness for all you Keats fans out there.

It is my birthday month, and I think you have a certain affinity for the season you were born in. I have been blackberrying several times - good blackberrying year this year - experienced that first nip in the air when going out to un-pod the chickens frm the eglu. started collecting leaves to make leaf mould for the garden, slipped on beech mast, and collected my first conker. Looking forward to lighting my first fire in the house.

Christmas? Pah! Load of commercial rubbish if you ask me.

Roll on bonfire night!

I like the crisp cold mornings too, Autumn is when I really miss my horse, riding in the cold morning stillness through the woods and across the common is one of the things I always remember and cherish. Early in the morning when no one else is about you really do feel like the world is all yours :D *wipes eyes*

I've ordered our woodburning stove :D:D:D

6 week wait .... and I can't wait :D

Gone for an Esse (wanted a Charnwood cove 1  (as seen on this forum) but budget and waiting times played a part in my choice) :D Happy with what I've chosen though!

Will order my logs on Monday so that I can get them stored and dried out all ready for burning.

New project for hubby  ..... to build a log store! Oh and get the hearth ready for installation

Funny you should mention wood burners - OH and I were discussing them this morning over morning cuppa in bed. I honestly dont know how they work - we have a lovely fireplace and blocked chimney. oh well i can dream. Its turned a tad chilly here, windy too and YS at first cub camp hense no sleep as worried re the little soul - I given him mountains of layers for warmth - i suspect he will be in a Tshirt. Also feel rough runny eyes and nose - just had hot honey, lemon and paracetamol. Ahhh autumn mellow fruitfulness and runny noses
