Space Chick
I am quite shaken up My door knocked and so I answered it, it was a burly man in his 50's probably and he said he was from SWALEC (the local electricity supply). I told him I was happy with my current supplier and I wasn't interested in switching. You'd have thought he would have left. He didn't, he put is foot in the door to stop me closing it and started asking me a load of questions. I told him that I was not prepared to answer his questions, thankyou, but he wouldn't remove his foot and started pulling information out of his folder. He kept his foot in the door until he'd had his say. I can't believe these bully boy tactics. I feel quite teary. I am home on my own at the moment. He insisted I was being ripped off, he asked for my name and I told him that wasn't relevant as I was not interested in pursuing a conversation and would like him to remove his foot and leave. He said that he needed to show me a price comparison chart and kept me on the door for about 5 minutes. I feel violated, which may sound stupid but I can't believe he did that. I mean if I feel like that, what must it be like for the elderly people on their own. Sorry Needed to vent
clootie
How dare he!! Get on the phone to whoever sent him and complain, loudly !! What gives him the right to put his foot in the door? I'd have been tempted to close it - hard. Makes me so cross. Such a shame Phil wasn't there at the time.
C&T
I would report him. That is simply not acceptable, and that type of bullying doorstep tactic should not be tolerated! Not surprised you were shaken up! Hope a vent on here, plus a cup of tea/something slightly stronger and a piece of chocolate (sugar treats shock ) you will feel a bit better! PurpleTree
That's terrible Debs. When we first moved to this house, I got caught by a guy from nPower (I think), I couldn't get rid of him and he invited himself to sit on my stairs, so he could fill in paperwork. He made out I would be only sent info about their prices, turns out I'd signed up to change - the only I was going to get rid of him was to sign. We were in the middle of changing from British Gas to Swalec as it was, so I didn't want another supplier thrown into the mix. Hubby was furious and sent an angry email, we didn't get much in the way of an apology, but we did put a stop to the changeover. I hate opening the door to anyone. Hope you calm down soon
abwsco
Debs, I'd call the police about him!
Scramble
That's awful! I agree with the above, it is disgraceful and you should call and complain about him...loudly I hope you are not too shaken up. ((hugs)) xxx
Seagazer
I'm not surprised you are upset either, I would be. I would definitely get on the phone and complain to someone. Imagine if it was an elderly person he'd done that to. I can't stand the way these people are so pushy but to actually wedge his foot in your door is terrible. Sending you a big {{{{hug}}}}
Ain't Nobody Here
I agree, that's totally unacceptable . I hope you got his name after him demanding yours . Make a complaint, definitely. And have a hug .....
poachedegg
Hope you've managed to feel a little calmer now - you should defintely complain.
debbier
I'd second what others have said: ring up the supplier, and tell the police. He shouldn't be allowed a chance at intimidating others. It would also be worth doing in case he was a con-man.
Chucky Mama
Totally out of order. I would get on the phone straight away and kick up a heck of a fuss. Thankfully that wouldn't happen in my house as my dog would have him for breakfast if anyone tried that on. I am not suprised that you feel violated. Your home is your safe haven and he had no right to invade it.evil: He needs sacking
Alis girls
Dreadful behaviour - hopefully there wont be a next time but shut the door on his foot. We've had them too and people selling religon. Space Chick
OH is now home from work, is completely furious and is on the phone complaining about their intimidation tactics as we speak. I haven't seen him look this angry in a long time.

Cinnamon
Goodness, that is horrible - poor you. I would have been tempted to kick him in the shin myself........
Snowy
Good for him! Poor you, that is awful Debs, no wonder you are shaken up! I am very pleased with our new dog - our front door is half wood, half glass. It does make people jump when she leaps up at the glass bit and woowoos in their face (if they are allowed in she then licks them to death, but it is still very effective! )
BarbaraJ
Oooo i hate them i work at home so usually have 3 little kids causing chaos and DO NOT want to be at the door. Space Chick
Our complaint has been passed to a senior manager who will contact OH tomorrow. Shall update you when we have some feedback
Janty
I'd call the police as well. Someone did that to me when I was about 15 at my parents house and I screamed the place down. The neighbours called the police as they wondered what was going on.
Cooks
*mumbling* That's terrible Debs! I am glad your OH is complaining about it, I hate bullish behavious like that, your either interested or your not and you clearly told him you wasn't. I have them tap here as well unfortunately. I had a traveller lady tap once at my old house selling heather and because I wouldn't buy a bunch she said she had cursed me.... now I was pregnant at the time and went on to lose that baby I know what she said could never happen but it certainly upset me for a very long time. Sorry off subject slightly, but a door caller non the less, I also do not buy from sellers at the door .. not ever.. but they do not loike taking no for an answer either. majorbloodnock
I would have been tempted to kick him in the shin myself........ I have slightly higher ideals than that, if I'm honest About a foot and a half higher, to be precise
Olly
I get very cross with these people, I always ask immediately 'what are you selling' and they always prevaricate about 'oh, I'm not selling anything, just want to explain our deals to you'. They never have a leaflet to give you, it's always 'it will just take five minutes, if you know what you are currently paying' etc. That's minor compared to what you went through - that sort of tactic is totally unacceptable, no wonder you were upset. I hope they take the complaint seriously and do something about it, as you say an elderly person would have been terrified. Grrr ... I am sick of people trying to sell me things I haven't asked for! chelsea
That is awful Debs, I would have been really scared I am so glad you have complained to stop this horrible man doing it to other people. I really don't know why there isn't an official regulatory body that controls door to door sales people - surely there is some "code of conduct" they have to adhere to? I don't even bother to answer the door now, I hate the fact that I am in my own home enjoying my time and they come knocking, and they always come at tea time or on a Sunday morning!! Hope you've got over your shock Debs.
bluekarin
I had someone do that from some supplier or other about 6 years ago. He invited himself in and was going on and about it. He then phoned his boss to find out some info. I can't remember why I didn't throw him out. Probably scared and a bit naive - not any more though . I was home alone with my three kids who were all young. The same person went to my mums house which is about 15 min walk away. She was home alone and he put his foot in the door to stop her from shutting it and was getting very pushy with her. He eventually went and then my dad and brother got in. When she told them about it they were straight out looking for him. Didn't see him so he must have been in someone else's house. Now I say my husband deals with all the bills. Usually works. Cookiemonster - you saying about the gypsy woman reminded me of my encounter. I was in Blandford years ago with hubby (before he was hubby) at a job interview. A woman came up to me in the street and asked 'any heather love?' and I said no thank you. So she shouted after me 'He'll leave you!!!' Shortly after that, my new shoes started rubbing really badly and then we missed the bus home (really bad bus service and I think it was th elast one) and had to get my mum to drive the 40 mins to pick us up She wasn't very happy I can tell you. Oh, and I didn't get the job. Not as bad as what happened to you and I'm sorry to read about that. Even though it feels like they curse you, its just all coincidence. Sheilaz
Sorry to hear that Debs, completely out of order if it was a salesperson, no wonder you're shaken up. We're in a road that gets a lot of callers and I've learnt from some experiences; Some people are selling, and I don't want to buy or change suppliers at the door. Some people are "casing the joint". Someone might be looking for a house with a woman on her own... So, I have a "we don't buy or sell at the door" notice & always politely but firmly immediately cut short a sales pitch. Plus, I'd really recommend opening the door with a strong door chain in place. Anyway Debs, glad OH is pursuing this, and I've made you a cuppa.
