craftyhunnypie
Yes - I might be the youngest there, but I'm trying out the W.I tonight. I'm a bit nervous at what to expect. I think the talk is by a posh jeweller about jewels? I'll let you know later. Wish me luck! Emma.x
Sunshine
Have fun! Let us know how you got on when you are back. Our village has a very active WI group and i always read in our church magazine what they have been up to. However at 20 i'm a bit young yet! craftyhunnypie
I'm only 35 & really worried that it might be 'too old' for me? But I love crafts, cooking, baking & demos etc. I like meeting people too - so thought it would be nice. It's at 7.30 & I've got to go fat club first to get weighed. Guest
very jam and jerusalem, me and mum would love to do that!
BeckyBoo
I'd love to join too but I'm a bit nervous that everyone will be much older - obviously I want it to be like Calendar Girls (but with considerably bigger buns!!) I always said I'd join at 40, but that's come and gone, never mind, one day. Be really interested to hear how you get on BeckyBoo
Karen & co.
Have a great time my friend joined our local one a few years ago and dropped the average age by a substantial ammount she strongly feels it should be for all women Karen x
craftyhunnypie
The thing I am sceptical & nervous about is.....is it religious / churchy? I only ask as I'm really not religious at all & don't want to get involved with anything that is. Can someone assure me that it isn't before I go in a min. docsquid
You should be fine. I don't go to the WI (don't think they'd want me, I'm too alternative), but I have done a number of Nordic Walking demos for local branches and they really enjoyed it - really got stuck in and all had a go! They have all been very friendly, but probably most of them over 50 years of age. However what they was talking about was of interest to anybody. Sheilaz
I think you'll enjoy it Emma, and they'll probably welcome you. Definitely go tonight, it's the only way you'll find out! Each group will be defined by it's members, but the ones I've met over the years (I'm not a member) have been lovely people.
The Dogmother
I've done talks to a few WIs now and they were all very nice, with a mix of ages from a 7 year old daughter of one member to a lady in her 80s. The only thing I've never had at a meeting (I'm not a member) is cake
jan246
Go for it Emma, I`d love to join up...if I had the time and didnt have to pay for a sitter! Maybe thats why the women are older, we can only afford to go out when they`re old enough to be left alone!!! Jan
Willow
Hope you had a good time. I wouldn't worry about everyone being older one of my neighbours took me to a ladies lunch at the Leander Club (local rowing club) and I wasn't sure what to expect. It turned out we had a private dining room for about 10 ladies overlooking the river. I was the youngest by about 30 years ! I had a lovely time, it was fun chatting to active interesting ladies that I wouldn't normally meet. When you add in good food and great view I'd go again like a shot ! If I had time I'd consider the WI - I love baking and craft but I'd probably find they've moved on from that
craftyhunnypie
Well I absolutely loved it! It was the AGM which was a bit formal - but had to be done. We then had a talk on diamonds by a posh well known Crewe jewellers. It was really really interesting. Afterwards he passed round various items of diamond jewellery for us to see the quality of the diamonds. Everyone fell in love with a diamond ring. We have all ordered one at £9975.00. Everyone was so welcoming. I am not the youngest - there are a few in their late 20's. Most are early 40's - mid 50's. With the odd few old ones. It's lovely & takes place at a nice venue. Two ladies had been on a WI course to learn willow weaving. They had made the most gorgeous willow angels & hearts with fairy lights. The next meeting is actually the Christmas do at a fancy golf club - I am going & have paid for it outright. I'm looking forward to that & the Secret Santa & the excuse for a new frock. Some of the things for next year sound fab. Mosaics, a clothes swapping party, weekend in York, Mornflake oats cooking demo. I can't wait! Oh & the bar at the venue is cheap! I wish I'd joined yonks ago! Emma.x

Guest
you'll have to do a talk on chickens when you've settled in Any other chicken owners or have you not had chance to ask yet? When we went to our first beekeeper association meeting, i found out there were several chicken owners there and at the next meeting they were all asking me about eglus! I wonder if there is a WI near me, I quite like the sound of it
Alis girls
Did you keep your kit on? I bet they rue the day Calendar girls came out although I suspect it put them on the map. I would love to join one. Might do when I have more time
