awful shopping

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else annoyed when out shopping by the relentless twittering of R & B in shops. I do everything in my power to avoid the likes of Cheryl Cole et al, but you can't get away from them in shops. I'm not a fuddy duddy - my favourite bands at the moment are The Cribs and The Temper Trap, and superb 70's rock - but R&B drives me mad, all those pointless notes for one word.

I would like a bit of quiet so that I can think about what I'm spending money on especially at this time of year - in fact I've turned to online shopping in quite a big way this year.

Sorry to be miserable but it's done me good to get that off my chest.

It can't be as bad as the X Factor stand in BHS last night which had a tune ( I use this term loosely) repeating over and over we walked out after about 1 minute  There are also an awful lot of crude things in the shops which I don't think really fits with the spirit of Christmas. I am not a religious person, but Christmas should be a loving family time.

Grumpy old woman that's what I am

I like good music of many different styles, including R&B, but I agree, there does seem to be a lot of mediocre R&B around as well as pretty awful cheesy pop from manufactured artistes and groups. I like bands like Muse and Porcupine Tree, but also like some of Beyonce's stuff (not all of it). But I also like music from classical to heavy metal. The only music I can't abide is Country and Western, but even then I like some of Dolly Parton's music. It isn't the genre so much as the general naffness of piped music and the feeling that somehow we have to have music wherever we go.

I mainly avoid shopping because of the crowds. If I go to the shops I go on Monday morning when there is hardly anybody there, otherwise I shop online.

I would whole-heartedly agree with you there. My Dad listens to the most awful country music ever. How many Hanks can you have for goodness sake?!! There was Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Hank Locklin. Ahhhh! Oh, and Marty Robbins' El Paso...what a pants song. One line goes 'I caught a good one, it looked like it could run.' I rest my case!

Rant over (sorry Dad).

I reckon Mariah "you must bow when you speak to me" Carey is the worst offender for warbling - why use one note when you can go up and down the scale at least twice for every word?! She's got an amazing range, and an amazing voice, but she will NOT hold one note. To me she sounds like she's having a tantrum every time she sings :D:lol::lol:

And it would be alright if the music was in the background, but sometimes it's so loud you actually have to raise your voice to be heard! Can't be doing with it me!

Yes, I agree - unfortunately our niece thinks she is wonderful :(

Alice Cooper in M&S would be cool!

At this time of year all you get is the "best Christmas album" and can walk from one shop to another and hear the whole thing at different stages. I am thoroughly fed of warbling busty women Beyonce and Alex Burke and the other warblers drive me nuts. They cant sing they just shout. Yes I'm a GOW too and proud of it. Go girl go

I do object to shop assistants pouncing on me as I enter the store and calling me madam, I will not and have never been one

Madam is what I call DH's ex-wife  ...she knows I do too as I hollered up the stairs to his nibs one day that Madam was on the phone & left her spluttering on the stairs for him to pick up  ..........everyone who knows me knows better than to refer to me as Madam, they get the rough side of my tongue

Surley NOTHING is worse than being called Dear,Love or Duck though??? :?

Ooooh! That's a bit southern! Nowt wrong wi' 'luv' 'ooop north. It's kindly meant and Lancashire for 'Madam'.

No offence, chuck!

Whenever my Mum and I used to hit the shops in Derby, we used to have a competition over who could get "ducked" the most often! The trick was to select the most likely looking cashier....

It is a novelty for southerners - it's not an expression that is used.
