Christian
That's the bit I am looking forward to Bluekarin. I'm always on the look out for nice wrapping ideas. I have a green curtain that I don't use, and wish I had a big enough pressie! Curtain tie backs would work really well!
bluekarin
Guardian rates her activities by practical possibility: http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2009/dec/09/kirstie-allsopp-christmas-homemade It seems the programme has generated a fair few comments after that article! welovemarmite
I really liked Kirstie in the house buying programme but had to turn her off last night. Got as far as her talking about decorating the kitchen..... ok so own up who decorates the kitchen for xmas..... then the glass baubles at £10 to £20 EACH.... REAL WORLD Kirstie... It was even worse than Delia and her chopping peel for pleasure!
ubereglu
I really liked Kirstie in the house buying programme but had to turn her off last night. It was even worse than Delia and her chopping peel for pleasure! Those baubles are gorgeous though and worth the money, as is most of his shop! Ok, so not the whole tree, but the odd one here or there looks pretty Christmas get people to buy them for you as Christmas presents. I don't really understand the big beady ribbon things for presents yesterday though...just a lot of hassle.
Chickendoodle
I liked her making out that she had hand made the teddy for her son - I don't think stitching one ear counts! The title of the programme should have been "Get other people to hand make stuff for you and pretend that you have done it" Very entertaining though although probably not in the way it was intended to be
Willow
the glass baubles at £10 to £20 EACH.... REAL WORLD Kirstie... You need to think of beautiful ornaments in terms of buying one at a time and build up over years. Many years ago I used to travel to week long meetings in Denmark once or twice a year. At the time I was on a per diem for expenses and Denmark was so expensive I used to mostly just eat at the conference and I would buy an expensive Xmas ornament everytime as my treat At the time they were about £20 each Last year I asked my husband to buy me the current one each year for Christmas as I still really like them but couldn't justify buying them for myself
Guest
..... The title of the programme should have been "Get other people to hand make stuff for you and pretend that you have done it" ... my OH has just dubbed it "Kirsty gets other people to make stuff for her and then she says she did it!" I don't care, I love watching it!
Seagazer
I think in theory it would be lovely to be able to do all of that but practically its just not going to happen in my household. OH said he thinks she is really boring and he couldn't watch another episode of it. I really like the look of the soap making though. Might have a go at that myself sometime. Not now though
Charlottechicken
Part three tonight, and according to my TV guide, she is doing something with gold leaf and mince pies, nothing too expensive then I actually enjoy these programmes of hers, they remind me of all the things I used to do when I was little, like crackers out of loo roll inners and that sort of thing (also showing on tonight's episode ) never blew my own baubles though, we just used to collect pine cones, paint 'em and hang 'em on the tree She's making truffles tonight as well, wonder if she nicked the recipe from the 'All things nice' section
BarbaraJ
Sorry , thought i'd give it a go but i find her very making. lets buy a £8 basket and fill it with home made stuff like soap that takes 6 weeks to make the caustic soda safe. Erm how many weeks until christmas?? i gave up after 15mins she is really irritating.
Lesley
She's making truffles tonight as well, wonder if she nicked the recipe from the 'All things nice' section - my recipe??? - I could make a fortune I haven't watched yesterday's yet...... Christian
I have recorded the first 2 (as well as watched them ) and will record tonight's too. I really like her and although she isn't the most frugal of people, her excitement for Christmas is infectious
Eggquisite
I really like her and although she isn't the most frugal of people, her excitement for Christmas is infectious Agreed I love her general enthusiasm & love of Christmas... a pleasant bit of light entertainment whilst having a glass of wine. Oh & those glass baubles were lovely !
craftyhunnypie
I missed the first episode. I recorded last nights & loved it. I love her, she is a real well spoken sweetie! She really concentrates when she's being taught anything & I love her bubbly personalty. I wish she would do more of these programs. I'd love her as a best friend - makes you feel all Christmassy excited & warm inside - bless her! Emma.x
Woodcat
lets buy a £8 basket and fill it with home made stuff like soap that takes 6 weeks to make the caustic soda safe. Erm how many weeks until christmas??. She's using a rubbish recipe then, cause if you get it right soap can be safe in 24 hours. It still needs to dry which can be longer and the longer you leave it the better but the caustic wil be gone. Karen & co.
We sat and watched it chuckling about her having to taste everything, and loving her enthusiasm Karen x
bluekarin
I only caught the last half hour, again but I wasn't too impressed with it tonight. Especially the expensive gold leaf pears I love her enthusiasm, but just felt it was all a bit too, I dunno, not quite right. As for being puffed out by stuffing some bay leaves under the skin of the turkey and putting it in the oven I did like her candle though. Very beautiful. Guest
well, I've just ordered some cracker snaps off ebay to make my own crackers and I'll be writing my own verse to go in them!

Sunshine
I've really enjoyed watching. I've really got into crafty things recently and making things myself rather than buying mass produced stuff. Ok so a lot of stuff she made was way above my crafting level and i'm not going to be able to blow my own glass baubles any time soon but they have been such easy programmes to watch. I agree with others that her excitement about Christmas is really lovely to see. My sister(aged 13) also loved it so we are off to the fabric shop at the weekend so we can get ribbon with wire in to make the flowers to go on presents. We have also decided to do a foodie hamper for dad for Christmas. Its the small ideas that have inspired us to do our own version. We got a set this year with the outside of the cracker, cracker snaps and paper hats in. Me and my sister are buying the presents(personal to each person) and my other sister is finding the jokes to put it. Much better than the shop brought ones! A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I have a swag of tinsel in the kitchen I'm afraid! And a berry wreath in the kitchen which I had to move there to make room for the advent doll (see crafty fingers thread) which is now on the wreath's normal door! I made the mistake of talking to OH about how Kirstie was blowing some glass balls. He doesn't get handicrafts (giant advent gnome aside ). Couldn't get over the gold pears either. What next? Diamond encrusted apples?! Loved the mega candle though.
Charlottechicken
I have a Christmas candle in the kitchen, along with a lovely garland of fake ivy (oh, hang on, the fake ivy is always up in the kitchen ) I do find these programmes strangely compelling, and if I find Kirstie irritating, it is cancelled out by her enthusiasm. I don't care how much she spends, she won't make me part with as much money to get the same effect, if I want to copy her I will always try and do it cheaper However, her ideas, or re-hashed ideas, need to come out every now and then for the next generation to enjoy But I'll be putting up the same Christmas decorations this year as I have for the past 14 Christmasses, and enjoying them as much as when I first bought them
