kirstie's homemade christmas tonight!

Recommended Posts

e.... I do love joining OH's tutting and griping about her,

my OH has just dubbed it "Kirsty gets other people to make stuff for her and then she says she did it!"

I don't care, I love watching it!

Did she blow her own glass baubles for the tree & had she raised her own turkey in a hand knitted Omlet style cube? Sorry

I really liked her until I watched Kirstie's homemade home, I felt it was sold to us as a green "moneysaving is fun" programme & yet she must have spent an absolute fortune on the glassblowing, wallpaper printing & soft furnishing tuition etc, unless the people did it for free publicity.

I'm not knocking crafters, I like making & fixing things but find out how to do it for myself, Kirstie seems really nice but she doesn't seem to inhabit the same planet as the rest of us

Yes, Kirstie does live a very different life to the rest of us because she has money and lots of it but I think the idea of the programme is to show those who think Christmas can only be found in the shops that you can make things yourself or find charity shop/second hand bargains and that they can be just as good, if not better than sparkly, mass produced, expensive stuff and that there's no need to go out and buy new, new, new every year! I liked the programme and like Kirsty's enthusiasm..........and had to laugh at some of her efforts, especially the baby polar bear with the black fingerprint on the side. Good for her for trying :D .

Ooh, I don't know, I regularly hand-knit my own roast beef, hand embroider all my own evening gowns (of which I have too many to count), hand-bead my own tiara's (do coloured diamonds count as "beads"?), crochet my own loft insulation, and...erm... do other stuff.... Honest.

It was a Christmas house from a fairy tale. All I could think was how the lovely bannister garland would soon be in shreds when her toddlers got hold of it

Beautiful house and setting but way out of my league. Her kitchen looks bigger than my entire bungalow! No space in my kitchen for decorations or more than one person at a time come to that.

Lovely to look at but you need money to do a home made Christmas like hers. I make my own cakes, mincemeat, mince pies etc and I think they cost more to make than to buy - much nicer though - would hate to think what the green sugar paste christmas tree on her cake cost on its own.

I'm afraid that when you have lots of money you truly can't appreciate what a normal person is able to spend. Not her fault at all but she does come from a very privileged background. Although in her defence I suppose the premise of the programme is home made and not budget!

Just off to blow my own bauble

she may have her knockers but she did have some good tips, like getting beads from second hand shops, taking them apart to make other things and the salt dough shapes were a nice idea to make with the kids.

her hand made soaps in a box looked good enough to eat! I think that's tonight but there was a clip of it last night.

Us down yer in the stix, well, we're not worthy of 'er radrar, she seems to favour places way away from Welcombe, ie Lewes!!!

What's the carbon footprint of that then??????

I loved the ladies making the wreaths, who just couldn't contain themselves

I, of course, have been drying my oranges for weeks too!!!!

I hate to say that I watched every squirming minute of it, but have to admit I did

I quite liked it...her wreath making ability wasn't brilliant was it! I could make something better than that!

I loved the glass baubles, but didn't really understand the point in putting them on a dresser though, they really need light shining through them to show them off. I've been to the glass studio she went to last time we went to Taunton, although we didn't spend too long in there as we would have bought lots!

I only caught the last half hour but really liked what she was doing. My sensible side kicked in when she put the garland on the bannister "what do you hold onto when going up and down the stairs?" but those baubles were gorgeous and she was quite right not to hang them on the tree  The beads idea was very good. Is it on again tonight? I didn't realise. I shall be watching again to see what delights I wish I too could make. Oh, just remembered, some of it's the wrapping of the presents with curtain tie backs and gorgeous wrapping.
