I don't get why people are worried, it's notihing that can't be seen by any random passer by. Someone explain to me what I'm missing please :?

Ditto.

You'd maybe see someone outside with a camera, but how many of us saw the google van?

Its just making it more accessible to anyone.

Personally I don't have a problem either, but we all thought it'd end at Google earth, then now this ... what next :eh:

Walking past is one thing but the combination of aerial views and the streetview gives a much more rounded view of everything. You can see what people have got, whether it might be worth stealing, best access, escape routes........if you vault the fence will you end up in a flower bed or in a swimming pool??!

We don't get people walking past and just driving past only shows semi-derelict farm buildings. We purposely left them in the hope that it wouldn't entice anyone to look any further. By moving along the main road in streetview and turning to look back at our property we can see through the hedge , see the house, the polytunnel (hardly likely to be stolen  ) livestock.........cars are usually doing about 60mph going past but pause at our gateway and you can see halfway up the drive and the name of the farm......and the snotty sign about not leaving parcels by the bins!

Far too intrusive - and unnecessary.

At least they fuzzed the registration number i spose

Our street has been added at some point this week; the photo seems to have been taken during last summer holiday as we were home - car in the drive and windows open.

Fortunately you can't see in very well however much you zoom.

On Google Earth you can clearly see the Eglu and run, though the chooks must have been under the bushes that day. You can also see where there is grass, and where the chickens are allowed because the green ends and the bare earth begins!

I have to say I do find the wealth of info a little unsettling :anxious: .

On looking at a friend's house, we found our friend driving past the Google van with his car window open, looking straight at it - despite the blurring he is easily recognisable  as he was very close to it.

Is there any way of finding out when both the areial and street view photos were taken?

Checked both my mum and dads house and mine - weird thing is not one of us has a car there we are ALL out (thats four cars!). Also I am not sure when it was taken but our caravan isnt there either so may have been before we bought it or away in it!!!

Next theyy'll be wanting to come and take photos of the inside - hope they let me know so i can tidy round

Fortunately they've gone down our road but not our cul-de-sac. I'd be out there with the pitch fork to block them if they had. Don't like it, and it is too intrusive. Ariel is fine but that's as far as it should have gone. I bet they wouldn't like me taking photos outside their houses at all angles.

I've changed my mind, I've been having a mooch around at people's houses who i know and some of them you can see right over the garden fence/wall (good job "Ooops, word censored!"ody was out sunbathing!).

It is intrusive in some cases and i'd be annoyed if you could see into my garden.

Just checked ours. I did check when it was first available and we were not yet on it, then forgot about it untill reading this thread. It looks like early last spring at ours. Some cars on the drive but not all of them. It looks like a nice day as the windows are slightly open invitingly for burgalars

We have got blinds so you cant see in. My neighbour accross the road will be thrilled his garage is open for all to see :( actually looking up the street, he is not the only one.

I have also got 10 or so pig feed bags full of garden rubbish on the front

What exactly is the point of being able to zoom into peoples windows other than a nice bit of info for theives. I dont understand the reasons??

Just checked out my area. Pictures must be at least three years old. Can't see much really as there are a lot of trees here and most things seem hidden.

A strange thing I've noticed is that if you look at street views then zoom in, the scene changes to one taken at a different time. I sneaked a look at where I used to live and spotted my car parked outside my daughter's flat. When I zoomed in my car had gone :? So it must be a composite

The other thing that has crossed my mind is that we do live in an age of instant communication and such intrusion into our lives is the price we pay. Not much we can do to stop it.

I've just tried zooming in on my windows but its so blurry you wouldn't be able to see whats inside, thank goodness. I'm just relieved that ES had his curtains closed - he never bothers opening them which is such a relief when the window cleaner comes round.

I've just looked on the ariel one too and I can't even make out which one is my garden! I must be doing something wrong. I've tried zooming in but its even worse. :?

I didn't realise we were on Street view, we were at home when it was done but didn't see the van. There's nothing on ours that you can't see from the street as we're only on a small cul-de-sac anyway, no such thing as privacy where we live. It was done in summer so at least the street looks quite nice, they use google maps on estate agents pages now so i want the street to look good so my house looks good

Zooming in on google maps reveals a very old picture, i can't see the chickens at all  I can just about make out the eglu we first had in it's original position which puts it at 2006 whereas the street view must have been done last year.

I have to say, it doesn't bother me but i can see how it could be intrusive for other people's property.

I thought mine was bad but one of the guys in the office is actually IN the picture - surveying the bombsite that is his open doored garage!!!!!

just had a poke around and my house is fine because of the time of day it happened and where are windows are you can't see in at all and the angle means you can't see down the side of the house at all. However the house opposite not only has there son in the picture but also has their open garage and the inside of their van in total view. Their dog is also clearly visable sitting on the pavement watching his owner. I was obviously in the middle of doing the garden though as there is a huge pile of compost bags and chicken bedding in the middle of the path that i was moving in stages :oops: i get it too the path and then chuck it over the gate cause it's rusted shut but usually take a break between the two maneuvers which is clearly what i was doing. thankfully i'm not actually in it so was obviously inside. looks like a pig heap though.

Where we are it hasn't been updated for at least 3 years as you can't see our extention :? I do find it a little worrying that it can be in such detail though

Have you dragged the orange man across Karen? - I hadn't done that at first and though we still had just the Google Earth aerial view which you could zoom in with. I didn't realise that you had to drag the orange man and if the street is shown in blue than it is on Streetview!! (thanks Lewis! )

Errrrm no  I tried it and you can see allsorts  I don't think I shall clean my windows ever again to stop people looking in

Thank you for the tip, I'm going to look up some friends now :lol:
