Guest
My new OH and I were watching Grand Designs last night and they had a bath in the bedroom. We both looked at it and said - that's what would work upstairs. Having shifted the bedroom furniture around today there is plenty of room to fit a lovely big freestanding bath in - the existing bath is the other side of that wall so the plumbing shouldn't be too much bother. Just wondering if anyone else had done this - if you had any pros & cons? We'd probably get an extractor fitted although it would be near the window. It would mean not losing a chunk of the room to get an en suite put in which would have probably only contained a shower (I hate showers!). Happy chickens!
No, but stayed in cottage with one once and it was fab!
Space Chick
I love having an ensuite, but the idea of a bath in my bedroom is a big strange to me
Lewis
I kind of have my own bathroom 'cos the parentals + Nat both have ensuites, but I wouldn't like a bath in my room either ... if you're fine with it and have another bathroom for other people to use then they do look good on t' telly about the new OH btw
Geoid
The only problems I can think of is that you would have to take up the floor boards to add new pipes, then waterproofing stuff on top of the floorboards, it would be quite a big job, even bigger if you have laminate tongue and groove flooring. chelsea
I love having an ensuite, but the idea of a bath in my bedroom is a big strange to me I agree, I think I would be nagging the OH if he were to spill water over my bedroom floor Also he would probably keep me awake! Olly
It would have been traditional in Victorian times, it's just the bath wasn't plumbed in, you'd have had maids carrying lots of hot water! If it's only used for baths, i.e. not showering, then I don't see why not - could be rather cosy in fact. You'd have to waterproof the surrounding floor but that shouldn't be too hard, and an extractor would sort out any steam issues. You'd have to make sure it was out of reach of any electrical sockets etc. Baths for me are for relaxation - I have a shower to get clean, but I lie in the bath for ages with a cup of tea, book etc., in fact I make a lot of phone calls from the bath! Redwing
I dont even have a bathtub in this house! (worlds smallest bathroom) I do love the idea though and if you have a big enough room then its worth considering The easiest way to do it would be to put the bath on a raised area which makes running pipes and waterproofing the floor much easier The only thing I wouldnt like is to have it surrounded by carpet, that could get very damp
Valkyrie
Condensation. Plus I like to bathe in private - get all and sundry wandering round my bedroom. Ciaran looking for work shirts, Erin being . . . herself really (nuisance), mum hunting for me and Murray (speaks for itself really). Cinnamon
I hate showers too,and love baths, freestanding ones especially. First of all I thought it sounded weird, a bath in the bedroom, but the more I think about it,the more Bijou hotel it sounds. Damp & condensation would be my one concern, especially if you had a shower head, which you would need. Good news about the new O.H by the way. Olly
I dont even have a bathtub in this house! (worlds smallest bathroom) No bath at all? I couldn't bear it. I thought my bathroom (5'8" x 6'2") was small, but it does have a bath, loo and basin. I once lived in a flat for six months that only had a shower, and I loathed it - sometimes when I'm tired, feeling sore, grumpy or just bored, then a bath is the ONLY thing! Redwing
I dont even have a bathtub in this house! (worlds smallest bathroom) No bath at all? ! Bathroom.... 3'4 x 7'0 so no bath only a shower cubicle I do miss a bath tub but we really wanted this house and figured that the room we would have to compromise on would be the one we would spend less time in anyway
chickencam
Was that the one with the bath under the bed? If so it was a very odd idea, but they claimed that it worked well for them. I was wondering where you had been, another loss to Facebook I pressumed, but obviously had better fish to fry. Good news, glad life is on the up for you. Egluntyne
Wouldn't fancy it at all. I imagine it would make the room very damp, and cold in winter.
Charlottechicken
My new OH and I Wondered where you had been, Pengy I have to admit I would not have a bath in the bedroom, but I don't wallow anyway, I'm a shower person Re; Grand Designs, was it the house in Scotland with the tiny garden, where he had to move the lamppost to get a parking space? I really didn't like what they did to the inside. One bedroom in all that space, what a waste. Obviously wasn't thinking of the future or resale (the outside was lovely though). WarrensWorld
Bath in the bedroom that's bad 'Feng Shui'. It would be better in an on suite.
Chickvic
I'd say no but I don't like baths, we took the one out of here and have a lovely double size shower cubicle instead.
Geoid
I dont think damp would be a problem, a good extractor fan would sort that out.
Egluntyne
Who would want an extractor fan in their bedroom though? Not exactly Homes and Gardens.
Shirl
You'd be surprised how quiet extractor fans are now. We've just had our bathroom and ensuite refitted and I can't even hear the extractors. I wouldn't want a bath in the bedroom though. If it's for you then why not? If you are thinking about resale I can see it would put a lot of people off. The flooring would need to be very practical and not really luxury which is what most people would like in their bedroom.
Seagazer
Congrats on the new OH I'm the only one who uses the bath in our house, the upstairs bathroom is more or less mine (its great ) the boys use the shower room downstairs. I can't decide if I'd want the bath in my bedroom or not. I've seen them in home style magazines and programmes and thought they looked really good. Trouble is I like my bedroom to be quite tidy and I'm not sure it would be if I had a bath and all the stuff that goes with it, bubble bath, cleaning stuff etc unless you had a cupboard to put it all away. Wish I had a bedroom big enough to be able to contemplate it
The Dogmother
Not for me, but then I'm not a bath kinda person; I prefer showers. I'd really like to have an open fireplace in my bathroom - it did used to have one, but the previous occupants bricked it in and took the chimney down. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Aunty e
Your new what now? I've seen it in friends' houses, and I think it's great. One couple I know had a big window in their top floor loft conversion, which was completely private, so they put it in front of that. How I envied them that bath. My OH and I always chat while one of us is in the bath (the baths we can't afford to have at the moment because of the wretched combi boiler, I HATE COMBIS) and if our bedroom was big enough, we'd put one in in a second. I'm still having to resist the urge to turn our loft conversion into a mastersuite, whack in a balcony and stick a bath on it. must not give in to strange urges. Oh, and an open fire in the bathroom sounds luvverly, what a shame they took the chimney down.

The Dogmother
I'd have trouble resurrecting that - there's now an airing cupboard where it was!
