fluffyfeet
Hi All Just wondered if I was the only person (aka nutter!!) braving whatever the wonderful weather throws at us this weekend and going camping. Sloping campsite overlooking the Severn Estuary too so the tent may have to double up as a raft Are there any Omleteers near Lydney/Chepstow for me to dry my socks ??? Chucky Mama
Oh my! Good luck, I don't know about socks, what about a boat or waterwings:lol:
Valkyrie
With this wind you might end up with a tent shaped balloon - ummm - you could end up somewhere sunny then!
Laura & CTB
Good luck with that one Dawn - I'll be thinking of you......... (whilst sat in front of the fire with my glass of wine)
Snowy
Possibly, next week though - Wednesday to Saturday. But we are leaving until last minute to see what the weather does!
chickencam
Good luck, if I were you I would stay at home and do all the other camping activities like reading and drinking wine, but in the comfort and warmth of your own home. I speak as someone who had a rather scary experience in Dorset a few years back in a tent in a storm. Having said that we are going to stay in a static caravan in Devon over the Easter weekend and even that can be a bit hairy in strong winds. Valkyrie
Don't mention the heavy rain on the roof of the caravan (or hail!) it sounds like being in the middle of a battle ground.
Cooks
I think I would leave the tent and pack everything in the car and come home.. I hate camping at the best of times let alone in this forcast weather..
chelsea
Take plenty of tent pegs! And towels! And wellies!
..lay a little egg for me
Well we were thinking of going away with a tent (that is to say, we were going to take the caravan but BIL and family were taking the tent). However, we struggled to find any campsites with spaces left, so it looks like you won't be alone in being wet and cold, Dawn!! We probably won't go now as we have left it too late. chickenNutter
Definitely not - we did this weekend last year in Cumbria and nearly froze in the middle of the night, and it wasn't half as cold as it is at the moment - you must be bonkers! fluffyfeet
Must admit, if we hadn't camped in far worse weather than is forecast i might be having second thoughts. It's the first motorbike rally of the year for us, called the Slippit Inn Rally, so sort of officially kicks off our 'ahem' summer It's always a good laugh though, and if I am marooned in the tent for most of the weekend I have a Harlen Coben book and a bottle of Bourbon for company (and a hot water bottle, gas cooker, small gas heater, thermals etc etc) so I will be okay. Plus the added attraction of 'leather clad silver fox's', well maybe more badger/bear than fox!! Dawn x
docsquid
Not this coming weekend, but next weekend we have a Scout camp to look after (as volunteer helpers). Just hoping the weather will improve, even though our tent is nice and modern, warm and dry!
Alis girls
Camp and tent are swear words in this house - i have said never again - still traumatised by last trip - if you're mad enough have fun
PurpleTree
Good luck with that! We're not camping but the in-laws are going away in their caravan for the weekend, somewhere in Yorkshire. We've camped at Easter before, we stayed at Breen Sands, near Weston Super Mare. It was terrible weather, gale force winds, freezing cold, hardly stopped raining. Luckily it was before we had kids so we only had ourselves to worry about. Even more luckily we were camping next to the in-laws and their caravan, so we could take refuge with them during the evenings. Was quite worried for the tent though, as it was it's first outing, it stood up to all the weather no problem though. It's bad weather that really makes investing in a good quality tent worthwhile. craftyhunnypie
Yes - we are off in the caravan ( the poshie one with real end bathroom & beter shower than at home). We are staying close to Ludlow, so you never know ifa visit to Wernlas may be on the cards. Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
Wel my flippin' eggs haven't arrived yet (not from Wernlas), so I might have to buy some from Wernlas instead, plus maybe look at some of the breeds. Emma.x
Karen & co.
We've just come back from a lovely trip staying just outside Barmouth in the caravan, the boys slept in a tent. We had a little sun, a lot of drizzly rain plenty of wind (the weather type ) but had a great time, walked up a mountain, played on the beach and had major games of Uno and Scrabble On the way home it was snowing, and we drove though heavy sleet between Llangollen and home, and woke up to a fine covering of snow this morning, I think we may have come home at the right time!! Have a good time anyone going this next week Karen x
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I begged to but was banned. It will be May before I can drag OH shrieking like a girl under canvas again. I love camping. Take a sleeping hat and lots of under-mattress layers! It's cold INSIDE my house today!
Avalon Fantasy
Mad...all mad,...... completely mad...camping? ok so lets face it the weather persons are not always accurate but I only look outside and note my very tucked in against the weather chickens and think... no, camping isnt a good one.. stay home.... seriously..stay home..be warm... toasty, blissfully unaware of the raging torrents .... is any of this making you want to stay? L Whatever you do have a lovely time.. I on the other hand have the logs in, (so damn cold here) plenty of films.. food.. drink..and will not budge, save to go collect eggs and say hi to the chicks! Patricia W
I agree with Avalon. I've just come back from a day in Wales (work). My car was covered in a thick white layer of frozen hail in a matter of seconds this lunchtime - and it was 2 degrees! Not nice anytime, but under canvas??? But I know there are hardier souls than me out there ...... I'll think of you all as I light the fire, get out the knitting and put my feet up... Happy Easter - wherever you are! Krysia
Sorry no! We have just come back to avoid the madness! also we cheat as we now have a caravan!
keyhole kate
Camping not on your life we used to have a trailor tent then a tourer when the kids were little I now prefer the comfort of our Static. When the weathers really rubbish I feel guilty being so comfy as I know the campers in the field next door will be flooded cold and wet. We have decided not to even use it this weekend as the weather promises to be rubbish ED SIL & DG's are using it instead we are dog sitting 1 Staffie and 1 big fat Labrador instead
craftyhunnypie
You lot who don't like camping..honestly! We had a brill weekend in our caravan ( the poshie as we call it). Fire on to keep cozy, lots of knitting & crochet with me, lots of red wine & fizz, chocolate eggs, pub grub, trip to Ludlow - 2 days of nice weather . Thursday & Friday were yukky, but who cares when youare cozy in your caravan with plenty of plonk, Easter telly & chocolate! Caravanning & camping provides fabulous memories & great laughs, it also enables us to get away from the hustle bustle ofeveryday life & chill. All of which you can't put a price on. Bliss!
