Hung parliament

Recommended Posts

Anyone else up and watching? I've had a really long day today - been to Leeds and back amongst other things, and should really have an early night, but I'm hooked. Will stick it out as long as I can - I'm absolutely horrified to hear about the people who were refused the chance to vote though. Surely there will be some legal challenges to that.

You must be shattered, and I'm trying to go to bed but too interested. The sensible thing would be to go to bed now & get up early, there'll be more results coming in by then

Difficult doing the sensible thing sometimes.

I know it would be  and my friend said 'the results will all be in tomorrow, what's the point in sitting up' but I haven't been this interested in an election for years, it is the first time in ages that I've actually cared what happens! I'm on the sofa with a rug and a hot-water bottle, going to stay up until I find I'm falling asleep. Nice to know I'm not alone, though!

Can I come and watch the blue tits as well? :D

I went to bed at 3.30 when I realised there weren't going to be many answers. I wish I'd stayed in some ways, Stratford managed to count last night after all and although the result wasn't a surprise I should like to have seen the stats.

I cannot believe the arrogance of Gordon Brown  I'd hoped he might have the dignity to accept defeat but it seems he intends to cling on to power despite losing the best part of 100 seats  I've already told the kids that if Labour & Lib Dems join forces and there are protests & demonstrations I'll be at the front of the queue

What this election truly shows is how unfair the political system is in this country.

Lib Dems have a 6% difference in votes, compared to Labour, yet Labour have 190 more seats. I personally do not want David Cameron as PM, as I simply cannot stand him or the Conservatives.

So, this just means yet more arguments between supposed adults who seem to have less ability to sort the problems they've caused that the average 5 year old......or have I missed something :anxious:

We try very hard with our children to teach them to be polite, share, respect others, don't spend pocket money which they do not have in their purses and not score points off one another....oh yes and don't make piecrust promises (easily broken, thank you Mary Poppins  )....politicians would do well to go back to those basic values in my humble opinion :?

Shall I go & hide with my chooks now :anxious:

:clap: Having spent my childhood absorbing politics by proxy, I now turn the other cheek - they are all as bad as each other

The electoral system does seem unfair in this country as generally the party that governs was not wanted by the majority of people and as has been said, the percentage of lib dem MPs (and the other minority parties) does not represent the percentage of folks who voted for them. The problem is, however, that any PR system results in more hung parliaments. Have you ever sat on a committee? Well if 10 people can't agree on how to run a small club, how could 650 people agree on how to run a country? I think some kind of electoral reform is needed and only a labour-lib dem coalition is likely to deliver it.
