School Trousers

Recommended Posts

OK - today has been filled with minor niggles.

About three or four weeks ago I bought DD some school trousers. They fitted fine. I have washed them but not tumbled them.

She has tried them on today and they are about three inches too short! It is entirely probable that she has grown enough to make this happen as she is now 5'9" (13 years old!)

I now need to look for some new trousers urgently. Does anyone have any idea where I can get black school trousers, 26" waist and 33" inside leg? Believe me - I have had a look round a few sites and am coming up with nothing! Plus they have to be reasonably fashionable!

Any ideas gratefully received!!

Edited to add that had a similar problem with ES but managed to find some for him - 30" waist and 36" inside leg. Give me strength!!!

My eldest son insisted he was 30" waist - fine got him to try some on with proper leg length. After much moaning and groaning coming from the changing cubicle, he flung the door open and was stood there saying he couldn't do them up.:eh:

No wonder - they weren't on his waist but around his hips....... :?

Told him to pull them up..... which he did.. over emphasising the pulling up bit - therefore they ended up near his armpits. :wall::wall:

In the end we came away with 2 x 34" - so he could wear them around his hips..... :wall::wall:

I get my daughter's school trousers from Miss Selfridge or Dorothy Perkins. She is very slim (not tall though) and it is impossible to get school trousers to fit her. Bizzarely the black trousers in a size 6 or 8 in these 2 shops are far more suitable in fit and are smart and and fashionable. 8)

My 14yr old will only wear school trousers from New Look - they wash surprisingly well, she had one pair that got washed every weekend, and are still ok to go back this time (I did TRY to get more than one pair, but couldn't get another pair the same and the others 'had a funny belt' or 'didn't have a belt' or 'horrible material' etc etc etc :wall:

I'm 5'8 ish at 13.

Nothing wrong with that!

Thanks for all the replies. I will go and have a look at Dotty P and New Look along with DD in the next couple of days. She is pretty fussy about the style too  . I picked up some from Top Shop and Warehouse today and was greeted with, "No way am I wearing those for school!"

I wasn't complaining too much - especially with the Warehouse ones as they were £40 :o

Erin got hers from Zara. Not really uniform, but black and flared! I think she was asked not to wear them 6 months after she'd been wearing them. So we ignored that. But she was realllllllly difficult with what she would be seen in as well. Doesn't surprise me your DD has grown so much. We bought Ciaran a suit and he's still growing - the trousers look like they've had a row with his ankles - we can see his socks now. Reckon he's grown 2 inches in 5 months. I'm going to have to put a brick on his head to stop him growing any more!

The ones that I bought three weeks ago were from Zara. They looked really smart back then. I will have to see if anyone else wants them now!

Well I did buy some for her from Kittens just before the new year started. They lasted about 5 minutes before the seams kept coming apart. A few weeks later (and a lot of repairs) the zips went and she had grown out of them. So we went to Zara's around half term. They were quite long, but the only ones available so I shortened the hems. Waste of time they were s"Ooops, word censored!"ed to oblivion. Then at half term between Easter and school finishing for summer we had the complaint that they weren't school trousers! Actually she still wears one of the pairs!

Half the problem was that one pair of trousers that she tried on in the shops were either too big or too small in the waist - and M&S was deemed extremely uncool! Zara had the only ones that were just right. Just call her Goldilocks!

I have problems getting trousers to fit my DS. At the moment he is in BHS longer leg senior boys. They don't state the leg length on the website, but they are 32". I don't know where i will buy them when he has grown some more.

We are also having trouble with ED, she is about to start sixth form and they are to wear suits with a plain white blouse. It seems that plain white cheap blouses are not stocked anywhere, she has gone off shopping this afternoon to try some other places. She only has one that fits so far.

Rosie wanted trousers last year, bought her some after much arguing and whinging and she didn't blooming wear them, preferring instead to wear her black pleated skirts with black, opaque tights  Those trousers have long gone to a more deserving child and she say that her skirts still fit her.

The real problem that I have is with her shoes, but that's a whole different rant. :D

I received and order for DS from BHS yesterday and instead of 34" waist 32" leg they sent 34" leg. I was going to return them until I saw DS go out to school this morning with his 32" trouser legs at the top of his shoes  Too much food and rest over the summer. I have officially become the smallest member of the family over the summer when YD overtook me in both height and shoe size :(

OK, next question.

Where can I get school type trousers, size 8, long SKINNY leg???

Cleo has decided she wants some for the winter, but they must be skinny,& the school will not allow any sort of canvas or twill,so they need to be your regular trouser fabric.

When you find out, will you let me know please!

Gap :D

They've got some really nice skinny "work" trousers in at the moment, which they do in long as well as regular.
