Women in uniform

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else wear a uniform for work? I have had my share of comments and innuendos over the years and normally manage a cheeky retort back or give a look which leaves the recipient in no doubt of my feelings to naughty comments. Why is it at 48 do I find that gents (use the term lightly) of 50 and up feel the need to make naughty comments or suggestions or get flustered and then blame my nurses uniform - comment yesterday " its the uniform I always find they make me loose my train of thought" The reception was no help she roared with laughter. I have a good sense of humour - but yesterday felt tired and grumpy . To make matters worse my car was parked outside his house so was treated to a cheery wave as I got into it. I have been offered a number of holidays some in jest and asked it could bring OH and kids. Normally cools their ardour. OH said I should be flattered - but I'm not just fed up with it as its tedious. Does anyone else have this in their job?

Its all down to those Carry On Movies, I think

No one, male or female could ever find my Waitrose uniform alluring in any way.

We do get a lovely new one in a couple of weeks though - very modern & fresh ...... can't wait :P

Of course it will also set off the nice huge bright blue plaster I have to wear over my piercing on my ear too :lol::lol::lol:

Isn't it true though that anyone wearing a smart uniform of any kind is instantly more appealing. I have no idea why a crisp uniform is more attractive than an expensive suit but it definitely is. My ex OH was a trumpeter in the Coldstream Guards Band (scarlet uniform, bearskin hat, shiny boots). Most of the men were pretty average (guards bandsmen are musicians first and foremost so are not battle fit by any means - beer bellies abound!) - but all of them looked pretty amazing in their uniforms.

I think also that uniforms strip away individuality - presumably the reason why we have them - so any innuendo is aimed against a nurse, policemen, fireman rather than against a real person

 try wearing jodhpurs boots and leather gloves every day

I always seem to have a car full of whips whenever it goes for a service

:) I used to use this to my advantage,

I took my car in to a garage whilst i was wearing cream jodpurs and long riding boots. I came away with two free tyres and a free oil filter fitted.:lol:

:lol::lol: good for you Karen!

No uniform here as such, but the dress code is formal and very smart if we have clients in. One of the advantages of managing the office for my part of the company is that I have chosen offices tucked away at the back of the building and I dress more casually too. :D

I used to wear uniform and it was far from alluring...........The trousers were unisex and weren't really designed for a short female ( far too much fabric around the waist), the boots were decidedly unsexy and the shirts so big that the lads said I could put a belt round mine and wear them as a dress!

No one, not even Mr Webmuppet, made any lewd comments. In the winter I had to wear so many layers of clothes to stay warm at work, Mr W would call me Mrs Onion  .

I now work in a nice warm dry office in civies.

I think TV has a lot to answer for the Carry on's did us no favours as the male patientsa expect you to be matronly (i'm not) or big bosomed (lets not go there  ) or a loose woman - not that either (sigh  ) so the older male (its never the good looking hunky ones alas) see their chance to give the old chat up line usually one you've heard before and the advent of viagra (thats another thread) means they are rapant well into their 90's. I once did a talk at church on my job and some of the things heard and seen (no names of course) and had a roomful of ladies doubled up with laughter at my tales. And I wear the classic blue dress with white piping on collar - hardly a head turner believe me

Nothing alluring about my uniform either, a horrid cheap blue blouse :vom: I wear a black cardi over the top of it, the blouses were not designed for ample bossomage and I like to keep mine covered up as much as possible. At the moment though I get to wear a black t-shirt as part of a promotion we've got on, shame it's got Deal or No Deal on the front of it

Some people! I think though that some professions get comments whether there's uniforms or not - as you say Carry On has a lot to answer for.

Fred, I couldn't get that link to open for some reason.

My worst uniform was when I was heavily pregnant and the bank I worked for introduced uniform - the natty pattern on a blouse was bad enough, but on a full sail dress......

Sometimes I wish I did wear uniform! I work in an office, smart dress required - it's a bit easier for women as I can wear a smart cardigan rather than having to wear a suit all the time. There are very few women in my environment and almost all that there are, are much younger than me and dress very smartly and are quite competitive about it. I'm not in their league at all, and quite happy about that!

OK, I wouldn't really want to wear a uniform - but I spend quite a lot of money each year on clothes that I wouldn't wear anywhere else but to work. Lillybettybabs, I too worked at Sainsburys as a student - in those days it was blue nylon checked 'housecoat' type things. Women were NOT allowed to wear trousers, so what with the overall and nylon tights I used to get a lot of static!
