Just seen your post. My son's school were given 3 chickens earlier this year. The school asked the parents' help to build their run and it was made from local resources in line with their sustainability iniatitive. Then parents were asked to volunteer for the weekend/holiday rota for letting the chickens out and in, plus feeding etc. This has been a really good way to meet parents who I would otherwise have not met as we all received our training together. The school came up with the great idea of any family who wants some of the eggs, pays £1 and half a dozen eggs are given away each week from a name being pulled out of the hat in assembly on a Friday morning. When you have received your eggs, your name is removed ie so everyone is a winner! When you help with the chickens the eggs are yours too. Infact, I so LOVED doing the chickens I bought 4 Omlet girls and a cube myself in the Summer. (I did learn loads from the school chickens, hence my choice of the easy to clean cube!!)

Arrived at school this morning to find the hens have been stolen!! They have been taken from the. The side was off and all the run doors were open. No sign of them anywhere. Children have been very upset. The police are following up leads. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

The school has no CCTV. It's in a lovely town in a very nice area so everyone is very shocked. It's a small enough town for word to get round so someone will know what happened. I put the eglu away in the shed earlier so it's secure. Let's wait and see what tomorrow brings. :(
