My oldest lab is sneezing with a high temp so i'm on nurse duties (which he is enjoying)and may bring him inside for snuggles and light the fire for him . OH took down Christmas lights that the wind hadn't removed and picked up litter which had come from a bin several streets away. After worrying about the bins staying upright I saw on the website that they had cancelled pick ups and closed leisure centres. A short while later the bin men arrived thankfully I hadn't braved the wind to bring them in. Horrid wind and rain and idiot drivers. Eggasperated Posted January 3, 2012 Share Posted January 3, 2012 Finally managed to rehome my girls in the eglu after them spending 6 hours in the cat baskets. We rescued the electric fence from under the tree and rebuilt the run area on the lawn away from any trees, luckily there was only minor damage to the energiser which OH repaired with tape. My daughter and her boyfriend were here as the electric at their house has been off all day so between the four of us we managed to get the whole thing sorted. The Solway is completely smashed so really lucky I had the spare eglu. Took loads of pictures for the insurance company so will post a few here when I get organised. So glad that it turned out reasonably well in the end, I realise now we all had a lucky escape that no one and no animals were killed, just wait and see now how the insurance company will deal with all the damage. The air pressure is still pretty high so hopefully we won't get more rain. Ain't Nobody Here Posted January 4, 2012 Share Posted January 4, 2012 We got off lightly considering but discovered this morning that we lost a small tile off our dormer window and the plant pot saucer I bought specially to cover a compost bin has disappeared completely . chickencam Posted January 4, 2012 Share Posted January 4, 2012 Luckily no damage here, but it was pretty wild, the rain looked like something from a disater movie but at least it didn't continue for 24 hours like in the summer of 2007. One of my runs is down the side of the house so quite protected, but it was very wet at one end where it extends into the back garden beyond the end of the house. All of the roof panels stayed put, as did the poly panels in the greenhouse. My younger girls got very wet in the Eglu run dispite it being largely covered by a long corrugated platic sheet, the rain just lashed underneath it. They were up making a fuss at 4.35am maybe they were having bad dreams about yesterday. We had a massive hail storm at about 2pm, we had ventured out to the supermarket and just got back to the car in time, the clouds were so black. Eggasperated Posted January 4, 2012 Share Posted January 4, 2012 We had a tree of the same variety and similar size that was nearer to the house, taken out a few years ago - but the one that fell this time was considered safe (and checked again in 2011) Anyway hens seem well on the way to recovery, had two large eggs this morning - or maybe that was the shock . Annoyingly, the tile I rescued which had fallen from the roof and not broken, has now broken in 2 because I left it propped up against the back door frame . Been vile all day again today with loads of rain and the wind's been getting worse and worse again.
