Falkor
Hi All This is a picture of Gypsy (Rose Lee) the exbatt on the day I brought home from our BHWT Northants September Rehoming 'cos she had a sore pecked bottom and her general state of baldness. Here she is in her puppy jumper a few days later as it soon became apparent that her baldness was partly her own doing by plucking herself When she first came home she had to go into solitary as not only was she pecking herself she would also chomp away on her crate mates. She was very human shy and wasn't really interested in eating anything that wasn't feather. To get her to eat I had to sit with her and sprinkle the food from a height and she would try and catch it on the way down. For water I had to squirt water into the coop cup. A week of this and she began to feed and water herself. Three months of extra protein, TLC, supplements, treats and cuddles and here she is TODAY! She is the prettiest exbatt I have here at the moment with pretty cream colours in her hackles and tips of her tail feathers. She has also forgotten all about her feather pecking ways and is living happily with her friend Totty.

Lavenders_Blue
What an amazing transformation! These poor ex batt girls do often pick up such bad behaviours, from boredom and frustration but with time and TLC (I can see she's had lots of that ) they do learn there are lots of other FAR more interesting things to do! Well done Em, Gypsy is a real credit to your care and dedication.

Falkor
From what I could make out by comparing the labels on this and their normal tonic is the moulting tonic is just a stronger version. Edit: Wrong thread!!! Edited January 7, 2011 by Guest

blackgold
I have had my new exbatts for 3 weeks now. They were the worst I have ever had and really looked oven ready. Pics in the Blackgold file. Now I noticed they look like they have little fans on their backs where the feathers are starting to push out of the quills. Good idea to do the tranformation pictures. I am going to do that now so well done you xx

Aunty e
Will try and get some pics of mine - we lost two of our eight, but two have now gone into shared quarters with the big girls, two are very close to going and our last two will have a couple of weeks on their own, as they were the most oven ready. Two of ours are very pale, with lots of white feathers, and they're absolutely lovely. We're hoping to get a couple more once all of ours are in the WIR, especially now that we've worked out how to do hospital quarters.

Mercedes55
How wonderful they look It is such a great feeling when they start to transform into such beautiful hens. We have 4 ex batts and when we got them last year we could only tell them apart by their various states of baldness. Now they are all so well feathered it's getting harder to tell them apart
Trougher
Great to see them looking so good, after only 3 months. I am curious though - I got my ex-batts in September, they were mainly feathered, but two of them had bald chests. Despite their combs getting redder, and all of them still laying well and appearing to be in good health, the feathers haven't grown back. I give them plenty of protein, and ex-batt feed, and I thought the bald patches would be filled in by now. Will they not fill in until they have a moult (do ex-batts moult?) sage
Hi Trougher Got my girls in May, 3 with no chest feathers and big pink bums. 2 are in full moult at the moment and are growing fluffy nickers and chest feathers. They have just lost their tail feathers and look so strange Sage Gypsy and Babs are looking so good.

Bexibex
Hi guys the pictures are great. Trougher - I had the same thing with mine but on a visit to the vet he explained that their feathers had been so badly damaged that the chances of them growing back ever again were very slim - the ends of them are dead and there is no blood supply coming through to them. Mercedes55
Trougher we got our ex batts in July and it has taken ages for them to look well covered with feathers. One of them is only just getting her wing feathers now. I think a lot depends on which feathers they have lost when you get them, how many they have lost, the time of year and their general health. Our one hen who has been slow in feathering up has had a few bouts of illness which I think has put her back a bit
