Snoxy
Just wondered how you cheer yourself up when someone or something upsets you? I took my daughter to school this morning and ended up walking home crying... Had plans today but so misog haven't gone out I know I am very lucky to have my health, lovely children etc, etc. but sometimes I get upset and find it hard to shake it off
craftyhunnypie
I do some baking, go for a walk round the shops, buy myself a new little something ( magazine or lippy) & I talk to the chooks! Chin up! Emma.x
C&T
Agree with the walk - or any other form of exercise. If something/someone has upset me, it's amazing how much faster I run, or how many more lengths I can do in the pool... Also find it good "me" time, where I can just think something through without interuptions, and work out what to do about it - be it recognising I am just being silly over something and I should forget it and move on or work out a plan of action! chestnutmare
Hope you're okay. I tend to do a bit of physical activity, as much as I don't want to leave the house at first, once I'm out there it's good. I might do a bit of power walking, something quite physical and think about what's bothering me, make a plan and then count my blessings. (P.S. I also love internet shopping) Didn't see the post above - how very similar.
majorbloodnock
When my father was a kid, he was given a piece of invaluable advice by his grandmother. She told him, whenever he was sad, fed up or otherwise feeling low, to go and wash his hands and face. Such a simple action, but it works, and you come out of the bathroom feeling just a little cleaner and more refreshed.
chelsea
A good old sing song! Put on some really cheesy music, blast it up loud and have a jig around the living room. OR A big lick in the face from my dog usually does the trick for me.
Snoxy
I felt silly starting this topic...but so glad I did..thank you all for your great advice
Charlottechicken
Let the chickens out to freerange and watch them, always cheers me up! Just in from work and it's nearly dark so they had a mad five minutes running and flapping around stretching their wings, lovely to see
Cinnamon
I cheer myself up the same way I make myself relax: hot bath with something luxurious in it,a glass of wine if the sun is past the yardarm,& a decent read. I find that if I can read it takes my mind of almost anything
sari
Don't be silly.....we are all entitled to a bit of a miz day. I hate this time of year, and love it too..I'll explain if I may!? My OH has depression, it varies, from completely unnoticeable to having to be made to get out of bed, showered etc...he is always bad after Christmas, so I began to dread Christmas and New Year. He's quite well now, new meds, a stress free(ish) job, and a routine of excercise.I love the Spring, and the birds etc that come to my garden... Yet I still feel a bit grey now and again....I have a good walk, a good bellowing sing ( I'm an ageing grunger.....) bake something indulgent...Easy Brownie Cake on BBC good food is a quick fix! and be kind to myself...we are all strong people most of the time..and it doesn't matter if we have a little wobble .....so sing up and bake up!! oh and I buy a bunch of Daffs for me and my Mum, if there are any.... coco
I talk to my dogs, daft I know. Ozzy is great to play with and absolutely nuts, he's one of those dogs with a happy face. He always cheers me up watching him tearing round playing. We all have days when we are fed up, sometimes a good cry gets it out of your system so you can deal with whatever upset ypu in the first place. Snoxy
Well after this mornings experience of dropping my daughter off at school I will be heeding some of the advice above...I expected an improvement...especially as they are aware of my concerns...my mind boggles
scarlettohara
When the black dog grips me I make a list of everything I need to do and then make myself do it Then when i tick them all off I have a glass of wine in the evening and usually feel good about myself
Olly
A soak in a hot bath (with a good book - or not if I want some 'thinking time'); or getting out in the garden, even at this time of year if it's dry enough there are things I can do. Or cleaning - I don't particularly enjoy housework, but curiously if I'm feeling down, having a good old clean-up and clearing out a few corners can work wonders! Alis girls
it seems the great outdoors seems to help at lot of us - at one with nature - I must be sad but cleaning out hens makes me feel like I've done somthing useful - I imagine they sitiing there of an evening clucking and appreciating their poo free house - relaity is they dont even notice
tom123
I go and sit with the horses and have a good think. Very peaceful and quite and "Ooops, word censored!"ody to pester you or make anything worse. Just the horses who are there to listen! redhotchick
I do many of the things people have already said, I don't think anyone has said gardening yet though. Weeding or clearing a patch is very satisfying. The physical activity is absorbing and the end result makes me feel good every time I see it. Cleaning the bathroom too. Clur
I give myself a fixed time to be miserable, be it an hour or a day, and then I think of one thing I should be thankful for and turn my attention to that. It's amazing that even if I don't particularly feel like being thankful, the action of going through the motions until it becomes genuine, really helps me Hope things get better for you. Valkyrie
Well before trying to lose weight - CHOCCIE!!!!!! But that's only partial cheer up. Best thing for me is a singalong to anything upbeat. And as long as you aren't behind a steering wheel a bit of dancing is good - and when you collapse on the floor exhausted and sweaty afterwards and see the postie looking at you in a rather amused way you can't help but laugh. Baths for me are relaxing - which can also help you feel good about yourself. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Snoxy
I am feeling better today...after a chat with the Head Teacher yesterday and a very helpful classroom assistant this morning who prized my daughter away from me. Didn't get a chance to be 'ignored' by the teacher as she was talking to another parent...somehow think she has take umbridge to me emailing the Head but I was so upset I just couldn't let it go He was grateful that I was being so 'nice' about it. I can honestly say I have never been that upset...even when I had no choice but to walk away from Ellin when she was in hospital for the first 12 weeks of her life Thank you once again for the fantastic suggestion and support...I appreciate it very much Lou X
