beach chick
apologies, this may be a vile topic, so do not read if you are eating... but I despair about my feet! from early spring to late autumn, I am sockless as much as poss, barefoot in the garden if I can be etc. my feet are more like a rhino's than a human bean's; hard skin all over the place, which is generally pretty attractively ingrained with dirt (I do wash, honest....) I walk on the beach most days, but our sand does not seem to have the kind of foot-lifting qualities they talk about in women's mags ("a wander down the beach is an excellent way to lose hard skin..." erm not here it's not). a good foot soak and a bash with the ped-egg thingy followed by intensive moisturising and even sleeping in those hideous foot-socks (mr beach chick just loves those...) lasts about 5 mins! heeeelllllp! please someone give me some foot advice!! craftyhunnypie
Perhaps sticking them in one of those fish tanks of flesh eating fish might do the trick? Emma.x
Ain't Nobody Here
Emma, you make that sound so appealing . Must admit to being tempted by that . I seem to grow hard skin on my feet faster than should be possible .

Olly
Go and see a chiropodist! Hard skin isn't just unsightly, it's liable to crack and can get infected. I get a lot of hard skin build-up, always have even though I moisturise and wear socks and shoes most of the time. A visit every six weeks keeps my tootsies in order. If you really want to avoid this then I think some lifestyle changes might be needed though! And I agree - that 'walking in sand' thing has never worked for me either. AJuff
I'd definitely go for the fish nibbling, it's great. Go with a friend and have a chat whilst the fish do their wrk. Amazing results.
HarrisonFamily
I have the same problem and the only solution I had was once on holiday I spent approx 4 hours in shallow sea water supervising the children in the sea....after a day or 2 of doing this ...all the skin fell off my feet ...it was disgusting I felt like a snake...but my feet never felt so smooth.....shame it didn't last.... Not alot of help really but you are not alone with rhino feet....
The Dogmother
Rub them with lemon quarters and let it soak in before rinsing off.
bluekarin
Its a bit drastic but I found the only way to get a baby soft foot was to have it plaster for 6+ weeks I had one beautiful foot, and one just like the ones you described. I moisturise, ped egg & walk bare foot as often as possible. I used to go the Scholl to have their foot thing done, which was lovely, but just can't afford it now
whoopsie
Proper pedicure every 4 to 6 weeks is well worth the money. It doesn't have to involve fish!
Reikiranf
Sanctuary Spa do a callus removal kit that involves putting a gel onto big plasters and sticking them on your feet and removing and using a foot file, definitely the best thing that I've used at home Not cheap but you can often pick it up on offer in Boots. It's been slated in the reviews on the website but TBH I must be awkward as the products most people rave about & I buy I'm really disappointed with & the things that work for me lots of people hate Never mind I was always told that it's good to be different
craftyhunnypie
I really did say No no no to those flesh eating fish at first. But the salon just up the road in the village has got these fish! It's only a little salon so I'm quite impressed that they have something like this. I might try it I don't know. I do find it a bit freaky that fish will eat your flesh. I also think it's a bit gross that someone with cheesy feet may have had their feet in your tank. Crocs are terrible for giving you filthy feet & hard skin heels. Nothing a good soak & ped egg can't sort though. Emma.x

I also think it's a bit gross that someone with cheesy feet may have had their feet in your tank. I've been for a fish pedicure (talked into it) and thought the same thing as you, but the tanks are filtered so nothing yucky really stays around. It feels as though you've put your feet into a tank of bubbles! If you have very bad, dry and cracked skin, you would need lots of treatments at 30 mins a time, so probably not your best option if you're going for anything other than the novelty factor! beach chick
right, plan of attack at the ready: - foot soak - allow to dry - attack with ped egg, followed by lemon halves - soak again - try the callus stuff, remembered I got some for Christmas - moisturise moisturise moisturise then maybe the fish! abwsco
If they're really bad I'd say treat yourself to a trip to the chiropodist and then keep on top of it yourself. I'm barefoot as much as possible but have found that Avon's Foot Works Pedi-Peel Pads are good used in conjunction with their Planet Spa African Shea Foot & Elbow Cream with AHA. If I can splurge I buy Philosophy Soul Owner as that is fab
Redwing
Another vote for a Ped Egg here they are fab Also good is that skin softening cream from Boots
Lavenders_Blue
Hmmm, after reading this, I think I might treat myself to a Ped Egg. I've always been slightly put off by the fact that the contents seem to resemble parmesan shavings (will I ever be able to eat pasta again? ) but as you lot are recommending it, it must be good! WitchHazel
I would recommend you have a proper pedicure, or see a Chiropodist, to get your feet into shape. Then follow a rigorous maintenance routine, including moisturing EVERY NIGHT AND MORNING with something like Norwegian formula foot balm. If your feet are in a really bad way, you will need help getting them sorted - you really won't be able to get them sorted yourself, unless you're prepared to spend a reasonable amount of time over an extended period sorting them out. I speak from experience.
