You know it is Autumn when.....

Recommended Posts

You change the spray in your sensor air freshener from cool water to mulled spices.

You start craving casseroles

You like the dark evenings because you can enjoy all your solar fairy lights in the garden earlier

The hens go on strike!

The white wine goes in the rack & the red wine comes out

You light candles again,& they are lovely spicy Autumnal scents

You stock up on Lemsip,thermals,brollies & dig out the scarves

Ditto the Crocs mammoths,with the furry lining!

You think about next summers holidays.......

THe log basket comes out from the loft and is filled with logs

I start adding "firelighters" to my shopping delivery

We empty the greenhouse of the last tomato plants, and we order logs to store in there

Roast dinners come back on the SUnday lunch menu

I plan a day to make Christmas cakes and puddings

The coats swap with the jackets on the coat pegs

I have to remember to take a coat with me when I go out

We have to turn the lights on in the kitchen when we eat our evening meal...

..And the lights on in the bathroom in the mornings

You struggle to get the washing dry even on a breezy day

You have a summerhouse full of winter squash

You have to change the time switches on the lamps

There is suddenly time to read in an evening

The good TV programmes come back

cats start using indoor litter tray :vom:

Getting up in the morning gets harder by the day

The Pimms goes away and you start thinking about mulled wine :drool:

You have apples with your morning cereal not raspberries

You crave soup not salad.

It's time for a trip to the apple orchard to pick apples.

the smell of apple butter filling the house while it is simmering on the stove

you already have 10 bags of leaves bagged and the maple trees are still full.

Timmy Tiptoes and his squirrel friends are collecting black walnuts and hidding them all over the yard and garden

you are pouring over the bulb catalog trying to decide which spring bulbs to plant this year

I have to change the times on the security light in the porch

Start lighting the stove of an evening

Wearing socks and proper shoes

The cats decide to come in of a night instead of staying out to kill things

The dogs get evening walks in the local park instead of us walking across fields and in woods after work.

The children are collecting and playing conkers,

wishing my short hair had grown a bit faster to cover my neck,

I put the wellies by the back door and get the woolie socks out.

I have covered the outside tap with its thermal jacket and turned the water off to it.

I have spare wood chip and aubiose in the shed for the chucks next clean out.

I bought a bag of rock salt for the drive and put the snow shovel close to hand in the shed.

I have added hot chocolate and mallows to my shopping list.

Started looking for my next good read.

Got the horse winter coat out of my shed for ED.

Stocking up on everything in case of winter snow;

Making warm porridge for the chucks in the morning :oops: ;

Coat at the ready for one very wimpy greyhound;

Spiders' webs EVERYWHERE;

Hoping each cut of the lawn will be the last for a while :roll: ;

Needing headlights on the way to and from work (and sometimes foglights);

This is the BEST time of year 8)

You tweak the shower setting because the icy blast is a bit too invigorating first thing in the morning.

:lol: quite true, the dial is creeping round on our shower

I know its autumn when I drive home from work, drive down the slope in to the village and see the lights on in all the houses and smell log fire smoke, it makes me feel so good to be home

You start going to Pret for their amazing soups,rather than the sandwiches

And,......................when you spen your entire 2 hour shift at work unable to speak due to a cold,but happily entertained anyhow because the boys on the shopfloor are making a Christmas display at the end of your til :P:P:P

*snorts*

Crowd control I think.

There was reported to be a fight in the offing between two rival gangs. I have to say that town was really crowded that night - even by 'fair night' standards. I hate it, not helped by the fact that Rosie always wants to go - I get her dad to take her, and I keep the dogs locked away too.

You start your first autumnal cold *sniff* :lol:

I get distracted during conversations by the migrating flocks of birds using the airspace above my house as a flightpath.

Stew, soup & jacket potatoes are firmly back on the menu.

There is an atmosphere in the air of people closing the batterns & hunckering down for winter.

I ordered my yaktrax at last!

When I was a kid my favourite season was spring, now it's autumn!

I have finally grown up (or turned into my mother :lol::anxious: )
