Electricbarbarella
some 'kids' have broken into my daughters school, tortured the chickens and killed one of them. I am sat here in tears, the police have not caught them so I guess they probably wont. if I could get my hands on them.
Ain't Nobody Here
How awful . Do they have CCTV to identify them? I really hope they catch them, it's terrible that kids are capable of such cruelty .

Mrs Potts
I'm really sorry to hear this, for both the poor hen and the school children who knew her. What a terrible shock and it must have been very distressing. There's no excuse or explanation, it's just a very sad fact that many children, of whatever age these ones are, don't have parents who teach them that all creatures need to be cared for and deserve respect. I hope the Head says that yes, you can have the hens even if it is only over Christmas? I think it would be the safest option for them at the moment, or until their living quarters are made completely secure? Mrs Potts
Mum
That is so sad :( I heard from a friend (who is a Police Officer) that theft of chooks is on the increase - no kidding Sherlock! As chicken keeping becomes ever more popular, so others will steal. I have a padlock on my WIR - is it possible to do the same in your school set up? About 12yrs ago there was a spate of cat torturing in the area I used to live in. I lost 3 to a torturous death (they struggled to come home to die). Since then, I only have "house" cats. Re-think the chicken security; try to think like a spiteful/curious/experimental child so you take in all angles of security issues. While you assume it is "kids", do not rule out the possibility that it may not be So sad for you

surfer_chicken
poor poor chooks. Shame on them . I do hope they get brought to justice. Though they will probably only get fined a few hundred pounds and a suspended sentence I can't understand what would cause anyone to do something like that How are the girls that survived? xx
memphisto
Awful, sickening, so sorry for the children at the school xxx
Alis girls
Sad fact that many psychopaths start life as torturers of animals and move onto humans. so sorry - hope they catch them but I bet the punishment will be meagre.
Guest
This is precisely why I never encouraged my sons school to have them! And we live in a supposedly "nice" area! I just didn't want to take the risk of them being targets for bored "yoofs" - and have the children come into something awful one morning! majuka
Disgusting Sadly this isn't the first case I have heard of. A lady on a dog forum I go on had the same thing happen in her son's school, maybe 18 months ago. Poor chooks and how very upsetting for the children and teachers. Is electric fencing an option so if they try it again they will get a nasty surprise Evil individuals...
Electricbarbarella
will suggest electric fencing. 2 of the others are ok and one apparently quite badly hurt but eating and drinking etc. going to see if the school would like me to buy some big padlocks in the morning,
Lavenders_Blue
That is truly awful I do hope that whoever did this is found and suitably punished (although from what you have said, this looks doubtful )
tracyann
That's awful... I hope the RSPCA were informed as they would investigate this sort of thing. Shouldn't be allowed to happen If the school want some more chickens next year am happy to donate some chicks once off heat.
Sammiboo
How truly awful I have a constant fear that the same will happen to my girls, I dont know there is no reason for it but i guess just the way people I am just paranoid i suppose
ohcarolina
I bet the H&S Police won't allow electric fencing as if some little darling gets injured it would be a criminal case and mega damages. Never mind what they've done to the poor chooks. Bad language Bad language Bad language
