school chicken tragedy

Recommended Posts

I'm really sorry to hear this, for both the poor hen and the school children who knew her. What a terrible shock and it must have been very distressing.

There's no excuse or explanation, it's just a very sad fact that many children, of whatever age these ones are, don't have parents who teach them that all creatures need to be cared for and deserve respect.

I hope the Head says that yes, you can have the hens even if it is only over Christmas? I think it would be the safest option for them at the moment, or until their living quarters are made completely secure?

That is so sad :( :( :(

I heard from a friend (who is a Police Officer) that theft of chooks is on the increase - no kidding Sherlock! As chicken keeping becomes ever more popular, so others will steal.

I have a padlock on my WIR - is it possible to do the same in your school set up?

About 12yrs ago there was a spate of cat torturing in the area I used to live in. I lost 3 to a torturous death (they struggled to come home to die). Since then, I only have "house" cats.

Re-think the chicken security; try to think like a spiteful/curious/experimental child so you take in all angles of security issues.

While you assume it is "kids", do not rule out the possibility that it may not be ;)

So sad for you :(

This is precisely why I never encouraged my sons school to have them! And we live in a supposedly "nice" area! I just didn't want to take the risk of them being targets for bored "yoofs" - and have the children come into something awful one morning!

Disgusting  Sadly this isn't the first case I have heard of. A lady on a dog forum I go on had the same thing happen in her son's school, maybe 18 months ago. Poor chooks and how very upsetting for the children and teachers. Is electric fencing an option so if they try it again they will get a nasty surprise :twisted::lol: Evil individuals...

I bet the H&S Police won't allow electric fencing as if some little darling gets injured it would be a criminal case and mega damages.:twisted::twisted: Never mind what they've done to the poor chooks. Bad language Bad language Bad language :wall:

I was thinking the same thing! That would definitely be the case here! And a lot of the public would side with them because "People are more important than animals!"

Sad!
